Does anyone know of any good free progs that wil convert other music formats to MIDI, pref customisable midi, so you can turn them into polyphonic ringtones ?

Inevitably turning actual audio into midi is shit, mainly due to it being incredibly hard, I have got a few programs that do it, and when I find them I'll link you up (seriously tho, the results suck)

Hello

If Scooba's right (and I'm sure he is :D) then your best bet may be to download pre-made polyphonic ringtones. Searching places like Google should yield a lot of results, some of which are free, others have to be paid for. Some are better than others, so be sure to shop around and check out the preview clips before downloading/purchasing.

It's my honest belief that mobile phone makers should adopt genuine MIDI as their ringtone format - if we're going to insist on having the bloody things.

There are thousands of MIDIs out there and the means to produce them is huge too. It would also do away with having to provide multiple formats.

Finally, as with MIDI playback on PC, phones with less powerful midi playback would play different instruments as the usual beeps, while newer ones would introduce more instrument sounding noises and play the existing files "better". New files would never be incompatible as a result.

I do not accept any responsibility for the irritation and increased "Office Rage" effect caused by a mobile company stealing the above suggestion.

Good point (Shovel) :D And (ironically) just when Yamaha's polyphonic SMAF (.mmf) format is taking off, Nokia have announced that their new phones will soon allow MP3 files to be utilised as ringtones. Quite a cool solution, but still, it doesn't help older phones. Oh well

Kind Regards
