Cooling Problems

I currently have a 1.4 ghz Athlon. Im using the Thermalright SK6 heatsink with a delta fan.

The only other fan I have is one of those exhaust blower thingys in a PCI slot.

Unloaded temp is 52 celsius rising to about 55-56 celsius under full load for 30 mins. Ambient temp is 19 -21 celsius.

As the delta was too noisey I bought the quieter YS tech fan. Just by replacing this my unloaded temp rose to 59 celsius. So Ive done a bit of research and bought another couple of 60mm YS tech fans. One is drawing air in at the front bottom of the case the other blowing out at the top rear. This has taken the unloaded temp down to 55 celsius still 3 degrees higher than a single delta and now just as noisey.

Im using artic silver heatpaste and appear to have done everything possible bar buy a new case. I currently have a crappy non branded tower case, but cant see how buying a bigger case will make that much difference.

Ive a friend with a smilar set up running his at 40 celsius unloaded. Hes got a Globalwin case but no extra fans.

Id be interested in hearing anyone elses temperature with a 1.4ghz athlon and what cooling they use.

Elaborate on how, exactly, you are applying the Arctic Silver - I have a sneaky suspicion it's something to do with that

Not had much experience with the SK6 - but most peeps say its very good.

Perp could be right for once - the artic silver should be a very thin skim on your core to fill in any imperfections in the core and the heatsink.

Try running with your case off for a while and see what that does to your temps.

If they get signifcantly lower then you havent got enough airflow

I was running a Taisol CK742009 with a 4800rpm fan on my 1G@1133 for a long time and my temps were 46 - 54C, 59C sounds too high - you might start to see instability.

I now have an Alpha PAL8045 with a 3000rpm YsTech fan on it and my temps are 30C system and 38-42C cpu (idle-full load).

ive applied the artic silver very thinly as per their instructions on the website. However just to be doubly sure I took out the cpu cleaned it up (very carefully) applied an even smaller amount, put it back in attatched heatsink and fan, checked all connections, swtitched it on and

I av erd dat j00 sometimes have to flip the SK6 around 180 in the sense u shud try the clip on the other way around (if u see wot i mean) if your temps are high. Never used one personally so i aint sure wot the score is on their heatsink base etc etc
