Cookie problem?

For some reason FH doesn't mark threads as read when I leave the forum and come back later.

So unless I either mark all threads as read, or click on each thread, they stay there, with that little arrow thingy.

Have I inadvertantly upset something? I've logged out and in, deleted the cookie, and its still not working right.

It only marks the thread read if you actually read it now, no matter how many times you leave and come back. Or unless you use the marks forums read option. Or as far as I can make out it does anyway. Not a bad thing IMO, many a time I have been browsing away in other tabs and FH marks things as read when I have not.

Correct chet.

If you don't read a forum it's not marked as read. Under quick links you can mark all forums read if you want to, failing that, under forum tools you can mark a forum read.

Right said thread.

I am finding that FH is not refreshing properly...or maybe its me but on other forums it does so maybe its FH.

On the forum main screen it shows who was the last poster but when I click on say General forum it shows me a earlier time. i have to click the refresh button to get the latest info. Just clicking in and out of forums doesnt refresh the pages properly.

edit: Like now I clicked out of this forum to General and then back to here and my post didnt show up. I had to press my Browser Refresh button for it to appear.

I think its part of the same problem that Tom is stating as I have to press the refresh button to to make a thread look "Read" if I have just read it.

Odd, since for the last 7-8 years its not done this for me.

It has changed now with whatever update Deebs has done. Which is what Chetan said in his post. I think I like it better this way, since I don't have to read all new posts in all topics at once. I can just leave them and come back to them later and still know which posts are new since I last visited the site.

Ok,

to clarify, I made a change to the way the system records what threads have been read.

Before it was based on a cookie which timed out and automatically told the system to mark all threads read. This cookie existed only on a single pc.

Now I use the database to track what you have read, this means it works across machines and allows a proper track of what you have and have not read.

There is nothing wrong with the forums, I have just enabled a better method of recording what you have and have not read.

I like it, before i'd see what was new, then get sidetracked and not check again till after the 10 minute timeout (or whatever it was), and would find i'd lost what was new, this is much nicer.

You are now hired as my official interpreter, although I did not think I needed one.

For some reason it doesn't work like that for me.

Forums I have read remain unread and do not update properly until I press the Refresh Button on my Browser...

I guess its a small price to pay...
