Constant Crashing...

Posted this on Daoc technical forum but didnt get any suggestions.
Problem is random lock ups, game will crash without warning, sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes several hours. Background programs like winamp keep running but ctrl alt del does nothing. This only really happens with Daoc though also very rarely with q3a. Problem seems to be getting worse recently but that could be my imagination. Got a couple of replies saying that other ppl had a similar problem. Doesn't happen System is Amd K7 1ghz unclocked, 256Mb ram, Hercules Geforce 2 Ultra Ti. using 56k connection and running Win 2000 pro.
Someone did suggest that it may be something to do with the power supply unit. Any thoughts / suggestions would be much appreciated,
Thx.

I thought you were meant to close all programs down when running DAoC?

I always tend to blame the graphics and/or sound drivers.

Seems to work in 90%+ of cases :D

is there any Patches for it?

Also, whats the temp of your CPU?

You might want to check that you've got your memory running at the right frequency. I had my memory running too slowly and it would crash whenever I ran something processor-intensive (i.e. games)

You may already know this but it hasn't been mentioned yet...

DAoC will lock up by design when a background application tries to take focus. This is to prevent third-party cheating applications.

For example, if you have a messenging system running and you receive a new message, that app will pop up a window to tell you about it which will try to take focus, causing DAoC to crash.

Basically, before a DAoC session make sure you've closed down as many background applications as possible, messenging, firewall software, screensaver and the like.

Also, believe it or not, DAoC is not supported on Windows 2000 (!) and Mythic have recommended you install Service Pack 2 which has corrected some issues.

You might find more help on this problem here.

OK, after a few more of the crashes (with all background programs, if not tasks, closed) I checked my CPU temp immediately on rebooting. Lowest temperature was 45 :/ highest 53. Seems like this could be the problem, but consider that it's got a very good CPU cooler on it and it's ONLY DAoC that causes this? I dunno.
I'm in a very hot room here, probably not helping. Anyone able to suggest any ways to temporarily cool it so i can check if that actually is the problem?
