as far as i know i have all the relevant files and patches and CS works really well.
The problem lies when i come to connect to a server it takes me about 10mins just to get in. I have a adsl modem connection and dont think this should be the case. Not only this but the game says that it is connecting then stops without an error message which requires me to type retry before i can connect again and access the game.

This is puzzling me

any ideas it doing my head in just sitting around for a game

Try uninstalling and then reinstalling HL and CS completely. If that doesnt help - you can always reinstall your OS. 99% it solves the problem.

I think you may have installed the Steam Version

Well i believe the "Steam" version was the BETA version, it took feckin AGES to install all the files it needed (Each time you connected to a server it had to install the Files) Now im on ADSL, and it took me about 15mins to finally get on, by the time i did, the connection usually timed out.

Search your cs dir for the custom.hpk file, its probably massive - mine went up to about 10Mb before I found this out (it stores custom sprays). Delete it. CS will automatically make a new one the next time you play.

tom, just set your allow download to 0 this will stop your custom.hpk getting any bigger than 634kb :)

or you can add the line

hpk_maxsize x

to your config.cfg where x is the value in mb that the custom.hpk is allowed to grow to before being automatically deleted and recreated.
