How many do i actually need?
autoexec and config?
I've tons of shit that i'm sure is a waste of space. I've found at least 4 "rate" instances for example.
I wanna delete the whole lot and start again with something simple but I've got no idea at all where to start.
I'm looking at the upset chaps config guide that ECA suggested, but I dont even know what file to put those commands in!!
:help:
Config.cfg is needed by HL/CS as it holds all your personal information, player name, key binds, net settings etc etc tec
autoexec.cfg is not actually a file that exists on a fresh install of HL/CS, people make these files to execute certain commands upon starting the game, this file is used for setting up alias commands (like in my previous reply) as well as holding rcon information or any other commands your may need. It can be used to execute other *.cfg files such as buy scripts etc.
The easiest way to start afresh is to delete both autoexec.cfg and config.cfg. Then start up HL/CS and go into the settings menu to rebind your keys and set your personal preferences, this will create a brand new config.cfg.
If you have a list of commands to *tweak* such as;
cl_cmdrate
cl_updaterate
hud_centreid
setinfo
etc
then these are put into your config.cfg, there will be some commands in there already you can just change the setting, if the command is not already there then you can just add it to the bottom.
Hope that helps
