Conan Crom-ing September 28 - Xbox 360 News at GameSpot

Well, up until now I'd not bothered paying it any attention, but Conan - the action game, not the mmorpg - has just been moved forward to Sept 28th.. and having had a quick gander at screens, vids and the preview.. I'm pretty intrigued, as it looks pretty sexeh.

I've been waiting for a game like this, and tbh I'm possibly more interested / hopeful for this than Halo 3. I'm looking forward to Halo 3, but I've played a lot of FPS's over the years and playing them on a console isn't quite the same.

Also, this apparently has nude women ;)

Here's hoping it turns out good and not another average failure to live up to potential.

Anyone else noticed this? Or was I the only one that's completely neglected to pay it any attention? :)

Not on my list of buys looks very boring.

I am looking forward to the MMO on the 360 though.

Strange, I didn't think it looked very boring at all having watched the few vids / interviews there are.

There's not masses of press or attention being paid to this thus far.. not sure if that necessarily doesn't bode well, but am looking forward to seeing the review scores.

Yet another MMORPG doesn't really get me excited tbh, partly because I don't play them :) But this sounds like fun.. but we'll see anyhoo, am open to being proved wrong when it's out.

Some impressions here:
The Conan hype thread - NeoGAF

Sounds pretty sexy :)

Couldn't care less if its similar to God of War, if its a good game what's the problem? :S

Halo 3 has guns, omfg Doom rip off!

Almost every RPG has elves, goblins, dragons and orcs, omfg Tolkien rip off!

Let me know what you think - I'm also very tempted to get it tomorrow, but I've only just started Halo3 and have work I really should be doing =/

It's just a hack and slash no online or anything.

Up to you if you think you can hack the button mashing for the entire game :)

There are a gazillion combos and different moves - I'm sure there's a lot more to it than just button mashing..

But I could be wrong :) Like Ch3t, I'm interested in hearing someone's impressions..

Hack and slash does not just mean button slashing. I love god of war / ninja gaiden style games, but there are few that compare to those titles.

I like the game played it for 30-40 mins so far and lots of blood and guts .. loves disembowling ppl :)

The combos you can do increase over time as you gain xp and can spend it on additional combos .. then you can master those combos for additional damage and stuff ...

I am liking it a lot so far camera angles work and combos work well too .. gfx are very pretty and voice acting is half decent..

Give it a whirl I think you like it

yes its only one player but its a nice game :)

That's all I needed to hear, cheers Moriath :)

As soon as I complete the pretty disappointing Halo 3, I'll pick this up

360 or ps3? I really want to play a demo on each console to see which version I should get. I realise the graphics will be similar, it's which control pad suits it more that worries me.

PS2 controllers feel all wrong in my hands now after using the 360's.. the joysticks feel like they fit a lot better.

Is the PS3 controller pretty similar to the PS2's?

It's near enough identical, except for the following.
  • Wireless (Charged through a standard A to Mini-B usb cable)
  • L2 and R2 buttons are now triggers (Although no where near as comfortable as the 360)
  • Motion Control (This is the Six-Axis stuff)
  • No rumble
Rumours are that a redesigned controller that includes rumble will be out next year. I believe this is because of a legal battle Sony had with the Force Feedback people.

It's more or less the same except that it feels like you are not holding anything and that confuses your hands into spasms. For a console that will have a lot of button bashing games this is not a good thing. Need someone to figure out how to make the 360 controller compatible with the ps3.

Got Conan last night from Blockbusters very good game and i believe the first 360 game to have woman showing their tits off when you rescue them.

Gory as hell game arms/heads flying everywhere.

Love just chucking my sword at people and nailing them to a wall.

Its a button masher but its a good button masher.

SOLD!! :D

Doesn't look a like it will rival God of War for a place in my heart but it does look decent. Will grab a copy later in the week.

Just started playing it, is good fun :)

Must make sure I make use of all the combos and moves.. is very easy just to mash X a lot, but there's so much more you can do.

Is nice to have a game like this to pick up and play and I think I'll probably keep it unlike most others because its just darn easy to pick up and play.

Rar.

Well, I like it alot. Plays just like God of War but not as polished, it makes you truely appreciate what a great game God of War is, nothing has come close to feeling like a truely cinematic experience.

Anyway, back to Conan. As I said it plays alot like GoW, combos and all. I haven't see any chains as yet though sadly so you will have to make do with sword/shield, dual wield swords or massive 2 hander swords. All these weapon classes have their own range of upgradable combos as well as some melee move upgrades thrown in as well. It plays fast and smooth, the graphics are nothing special but they are ok and work well enough to get you hooked into the game and it's storyline. All in all I like it alot, only a couple of levels in so far but it is looking like a winner.

Based on what I have seen so far I would give it 85%, if the graphics were more detailed and the game felt more polished I would definately be giving a score in the low 90's.

The game suprised me alot i was expecting abit of a borefest but it's rather fun esp when you start chopping off heads and throwing them onto spikes :D

Latency... without wanting to state the obvious, does it freeze during the first few battles? If you look to the bottom of your screen, you will see some helpful game hints. until you press A the game will not resume....

Just completed, comes in a little under 8 hours - with me playing for about 45 mins at a time.

Good fun game.. a very frustrating end boss at the end - but damn satisfying when it's over.

I very rarely replay a game, and unfortunately I don't think I will replay this, even though I didn't get to try out all the combos.

Completing the game on normal unlocks a "Master all moves" cheat along with "Song of Death mode" (i.e. always on) - which might be fun for some.

Unfortunately for me, it means I don't have to work very hard to try out the few the moves I missed.. and I wasn't that bothered anyway, so its unlikely to happen :D

Tonnes of random Achievements for the OCD people among you - of which I am not.. don't understand them myself and cba wasting hours of my time :X

All in all, good game :D

This will probably be a trade in for Assassins' Creed methinks :)

meh i'm about 3 1/2 hours in (got 3-4 pieces of armour) and its a decent game i guess, some v fun parts, but a lot of average parts (same enemies all the way sofar, and theyre actually stupid, i just run past them now its only effort to kill them cuz theyre boring) .. worth renting, wouldnt reccomend buying, gods of wars miles better

Aye, I'd say rental with hindsight. After the first few hours I was all for buying but it wears down a little, still fun though.

It's a shame they up the difficulty of some enemies toward the end, rather than having some more weaker enemies to content with aswell - allowing you to make use of all the combos you're unlocking, as some (even the expensive ones) aren't very helpful in the later stages, despite being awesome.

Can't wait for Assassin's Creed tbh, need a new game now :(
