Can anyone please help with a problem that I have while playing Daoc my PC just switches itself off, almost like it goes to standby mode and it tens to happen more during busier places such as emain or CS. The sound stops and the keyboard wont work and the machine will not "wake up" and i have to switch it off and then on. Windows XP does not report an error and wont give me a Blue Screen of Death even though I have asked it to.
This only happens while playing Daoc and can play everything else with no problems.
I have reformated, checked bios settings, reinstalled every driver, directx and Daoc but it still does it. The air temperature inside the case seems ok too and all fans work correctly.
It has got me stuck....and is ruining Daoc for me.

Oh and it has run Daoc for the past year without any probs. Just started doing it.

If anyone can please help I will be ever so grateful

The first suggestion i would make would be overheating. Try running it all your fans on full speed or even with your case open.

Check your bios and it should give you a CPU temp reading.

Thanks for the reply, I checked Bios and it states System temperature at 28 Degrees C and Cpu temperature is 43 degrees C. My cpu warning temp is set at 63 and have not had it activate yet. (It beeps repeatedly if it does). I have had the case open too but that did'nt help either.

Still absolutely miffed :(

TEmperature gauges should always be taken witha pinch of salt. It very much depends on where the sensor is and how good a thermal connection it has. It's not unknown for them to be out by quite a lot.
if you're getting no windows errors, then I'd be tempted to agree that overheating is the most likely culprit. Failing that try swapping the power supply.

and it could be your gfx card getting hot which is not monitored in the bios

This would account for screen freezing etc

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am along the lines of thinking that the graphics card is the fault. I think I will have to take it out and get it checked over. I might also try swapping the power supply.
Its just odd that I can play Counterstrike and Soldier of Fortune 2 all day yet Daoc gives the problem.

Thanks again

I had a 4200 and suffered the exact same problems as you.

I have been an advid nvidia supporter for years but through convenience i chose a 9600 Pro.

My System is now more stable than ever and i havent had one single crash :l
