assuming it a good qulaity PSU then no. I'm pretty sure It aint a psu problem!

Check tmp on heat sink, 60 degrees or below is ACCEPTABLE but not great. More and you've found the problem!
Also check to make sure all the fans are moving. My rig shuts down if the fans drop speed or even stop :)

I have a 1300 T-Bird, 64VIVO DDR Radeon, Audigy Platinum, Pioneer slot DVD rom, Cheapo CD-RW 512 Ram 20 Gig main 40 Gig slave. All on 300W er with 3 system fans running off it, and my laser bay!!! No problem

what heatsink is on the processor? xp's are pretty hot chips - if it's getting too hot the system will shut itself down...

Does the shutdown correspond to the screensaver kicking in?

Cool, I know someone who built a T-Bird system without connecting power to the fan. Apparently it melted the components underneath the CPU. But the CPU still worked!!! How well I don't know!!!

Avatar261 if there is smoke coming from your PC then you know whats up!

:D
