Commuter shot in cash machine raid in Rayleigh!

A man has been shot by armed robbers at a railway station.

The victim, in his 20s, was seriously injured after two men threatened a security guard in Rayleigh, Essex.

Detectives believe he had been trying to help two security guards who were loading a cash machine at Rayleigh railway station shortly after 7am today.


The man, who lives locally, was injured when the raiders opened fire shortly afterwards.

Investigating officers said the two robbers - who both wore scarves on their faces - made off in a white Ford Escort car which was later found abandoned.

They believe they probably got into another vehicle after dumping the Escort. Police have not said whether any cash was snatched during the raid.

A spokesperson said the man was being treated in hospital and was in a 'serious' condition. The security guards were not seriously hurt.
