dual wield/dirty tricks (that good for pve?)...what else merc offer to compliment a pally over a minstrel.....

result is we lose mana regen, spd buff, heal chant, CC, ablative chant at 30 ...a reasonably bad tank but other than that where does merc beat a minstrel for pally combo?

Im learning here so keen for input.

merc = dmg
pally = dmg-, af- ,end- and healchant + guard III at higher lvl
minstrel = cc (dont need it with duo), speed (dont need it with xping o/), ablative (nice one)

when xping with pally i rather duoed with a merc for dmg than with a minstrel for ablative

you should duo with pally/minstrel if you want to.
its a good combo. Merc/pally is probably better, but if you like the minstrel, by all means keep it.

Merc is all about front loadeded damage. with a paladin there to take the beatings, the merc can really shine, because he can do his positionals.

Minstrel is basically a support class. If you only plan on duoing, the minstrel wont really get to shine. But useful, still, with average melee and some DDs. will rarely need his CC abilities in a duo, but handy if you group with others.

Paladin/Friar also works IMO.

Benefits I see (based on the assumption you're making a SnS paladin)..

Both of you will be able to pull easily due to taunt shouts.

A parrying evading friar with block on him is next to unhitable at later levels.

You get base buffs and downtime healing (assuming you need it).

At 50 will let you farm seals off hulks in DF as a duo quite nicely.

Cheers...

stop asking about paladin spec's and try searching the board, the topic has been brought up more than a dozen time and its getting annoying now

paladin/friar is a really nice duo, might even be better

buffs + nice dmg from friar and maybe some downtime healing

but you should play the classes you like or else you will just delete at lvl10 :p

paladin + sorcerer is better than paladin + minstrel at low levels, esp when you can grab a healing pet. (Although, to be fair, a minstrel can do that too)

At high levels, the minstrel duos pretty well with the pally - but ablative isn't worth all that much until you get above 40.

Gotta agree with Glacier, pally and friar over pally/minstrel to tell the truth. Funky staff damage, buffs, heals if you get in trouble, etc etc.

Although, PVE wise, pretty much anything groups well with a pally.
