Go see. Now.

Not quite as accomplished as some of Mann's other films, but still much more interesting to watch than the usual Hollywood crime capers.

There are some genuinely shocking moments, I won't say more but think of Misery and The Shining for anticlimaxes. Strangely for a Michael Mann film, there is humour interspersed with the action, which didn't really seem that funny to me.

Tom Cruise makes a very plausible bad guy, although Jamie Foxx for some reason makes me think that hes trying hard to be Samuel Jackson.

For those people who liked the shootout sequence in Heat, well you won't be dissappointed in this film :)

I thought it sucked :(
The 20man punch up before we went in was much more entertaining to watch 8]

I thought it was a class ending.
Earlier in the Film Cruise comments on a man who had died on the subway and wasn't discovered for about 6 hours, and what happens at the end? :)

Really liked it. Particularly enjoyed the running commentary offered at my particular cinema - couple of women chatting the whole way through "oo, is that the police there?" "oo, you don't want to mess with someone like him hehehe!".

Felt gutted that Fanning (I think that was his name - Ruffalo's character) got killed. Came as a real shock tbh.

Beautifully shot too, had a great look - I think he used DV cameras for this one, which I presume is why the film has that really high def realism to it.

No DV cameras used AFAIK, the majority being shot on film, but there were several shots that used what looked like either HDCAM or some miniature varient. It looked like the same technique he used in Ali, which tends to suggest miniature cameras of some kind.

What stood out for me was how natural everything looked. Normally, cinematographers use light to set the mood for a scene, but this film seemed to lack any sense of artificiality in that respect. Did you notice how some outdoor shots were lit to look like sodium lighting? Normally, you'd use a white light with a touch of CTB, to give a slightly blue appearance. Also,
the final scenes in the office looked utterly fantastic, and really helped to ramp up the tension, by not using any key lights whatsoever.

What is people's problem with the ending?
IMO it was poetic, referring to the earlier dialogue about Vincent hating LA. Also, the guy had been in a serious car crash, shot in the head, jumped (and fell) through a window, and ran half a mile. You can't expect him to aim accurately after all that

Definitely the best film I've seen this year, although I am biased by liking everything that Mann does.

Well think about it, Tom Cruise a killer bad to the bone, kills the ***** who nick his lappy, kill cops/guards at night club with ease then lo and be hold at the end he gets capped by the taxi driver who dreams/lies about arunning a limo company that has famous peeps for customers. on the train tom cruise shoulda killed em both that woulda been a great ending. woulda been cool if jamie foxx and jada picket smith took a train ride for 6 days instead :eek2:

I loved this film. Too tired to gather my full thoughts on it but most has already been said. Admittedly

I wanted Vincent to cap them both and get away with it scot free. And also seemed strange that the FBI and co appeared in the nightclub then were forgotten about - surely they'd have pinned down the border around that club once inside. On the plus side it meant the film was more about Vincent vs Max rather than Vincent versus cops.

(In response to yaka) yeah but as was said before, he was shot in the ear - a bullet flying past your head that close would probably cause a few problems. Also, you saw that the lights went out and neither guy could see anything so it was just a matter of luck really. For some reason I'm most gutted that LAPD cop died :\.

I just relly liked the way the vincent character was completly removed from reality. Although he was slightly to the left of the real world. Perfect hitman character really. "You killed him". "No, the bullets and the fall killed him. I just shot him"

No, the operation was put together very hurredly, if you recall they realised what was happening on the obo (where you see max enter the club to get the info from the boss). They basically jumped into a car, tooled up, and put their foot down to get there. Also, you can't contain an incident like that, it was total chaos outside the club by the time the latino cop was shot.

Only saw this last night, fantastic film. The relationship between Cruise and Foxx was great, and I thought the ending was good.

The taxi crash was great, the bits of metal and glass coming towards the camera and the sound they made was fantastic
