As usual, pratting about with my PC has led to a fuck up when playing back video files. This all came about when I installed ffdshow out of curiosity and suddenly some video files don't play at all, and DivX videos are all blotchy with strange purple colourations.

I've removed ffdshow and reinstalled DivX and WMP9 codecs, but to no avail. I suspect that I need to remove all my video codecs and reinstall from scratch.

Can anyone advise how to do this, or point me in the direction of a guide on how to do this on Windows XP? I've gone to control panel -> sounds and audio devices and removed video codecs from there (and then reinstalled) but this hasn't fixed it.

Thanks

Uninstall DivX and reinstall it.

That's fixed my divX problem thanks :), but i still have another prob playing other files. Before this happened, the Nvidia nvDVD icon used to show in the systray, almost as if it was using some sort of dvd thingy to playback.

Well, I'd check your startup to see whats loading. Could be that some driver or such is loading first and screwing your Nvidia stuff up.

Run that to see whats being loaded when you boot up. Its rather good, although don't go deleting stuff willy-nilly.

Sorted,

It was Theatretek DVD fucking things up. I installed it when I saw some posts raving about it, then tried it and decided it was shite, not a patch on nvDVD imo.

Thanks Tom

Tried to give you rep, but it wouldn't let me :(

I need to spread more around apparently.
