Clone Of Clanbase

I am looking for voluntary PHP coders to join me to help create a clone of clanbase/barrysworld.

I have started planning sections for the site and I have realised that to code this site by myself would take a long time. If I can get many people working on this project then not only will the site be finished quickly but there will also be sufficient people to run the site itself.

I haven't decided on a name for the site yet, although something like Clan Planet would suffice.

If you are interested in working on this project voluntarily then please reply here. If you have any ideas or thoughts about this then please reply here. If this project gets underway and is completed it could become a very popular online gaming community for many people all around the world.

In the interests of being nice:

PHP coders are likely to reside in the WebDev forum rather than here, where any response will be lost amougnst the *ZIIPS* and such.

Also, calling the site "Clan Planet" will probably get you sued. Or if not that, 'laid into' is a likely alternative.

Cheers.

Haven't been around here much recently have you shov :/

Crucifi3r: why would you want to create clones of existing sites? Nothing wrong with coming up with an original idea, you know.

I somehow managed to miss the ruck(s) of earlier this week, but I tend to lurk. I still haven't worked out how they passed me by though.

I apologise, most sincerely, for trying to be nice...

Indeed. Everyone is satisfied with the services the leagues BarrysWorld/Clanbase/Jolt provide... the only times problems ever occur are either with the servers, or the clans playing... You won't be able to offer anything new, unless you can guarentee lag-free servers, protected from all forms of cheating and somehow having the ability to completely control clans and their behaviour.

I wouldn't bother wasting your time, if I were you. Like xennywenny says there, try something new. Like a CLQ clone. :p

I meant with reference to the *ziip*s - haven't seen any since the last big forum-member renovation we had :p

"Sued" was an exagerration, but it wouldn't suprise me if GameSpy Network on the word "Planet".. would be amusing anyhow. Briefly.

EDIT: And surely *ZIIIP*s are a timeless artifact of the gen forum? Anyway, it doesn't matter.

I'm surprised Planet Hollywood hasn't been bought by GSI yet :)

A clone is an extact copy....so why bother?

I don't mean an exact copy of clanbase/barrysworld. The whole thing will be planned from scratch with new features on the site and leagues and cups for games that currently arent supported by clanbase/barrysworld.

Clan Planet was one of the first names that came into my head. I wasnt actually going to call it that, it was just an example so you guys could know what I was talking about

Plus, theres not need to have a go at me, I was simply suggesting an idea and when I said id like to know what you think, I didnt mean for you guys to have a go just to politely tell me what you think.

Is there anyone who wants help out because I'm creating it even if noone wants to help out it will just take longer to do by myself

we're not having a go [really]. some stuff has been pointed out, and some questions have been asked.
in a nutshell: I don't believe we see the point of this project [other than it being a good way to hone some skills [my words heh]]

I know nothing of php myself, though it seems easy enough. Apart from that, good luck.

Technical PHP stuff that you may have will go best here.

Oh dear... I for one was quite satisfied with the lack of flames for a thread like this. Ah well...

Basically dude, I think you're aiming too high. With organisations such as BW, Clanbase, Jolt etc. having a huge following, as well as a vast team of expert coders, administrators, businessmen, web designers, system operators, hardware specialists etc., a small website set up online by amatuers (which sounds like what you're planning) will hardly offer any competition.

Basically, you might want to rethink your design strategy - find and focus on a factor relevant to online gaming yet NOT fully supported by Clanbase or BW, research it, and exploit it in your site plans. Then, prove to people that you are a competant leader for the site/company, by having a well thought out and detailed plan or site map, and if applicable get started on some of the practical work yourself. If it looks like it has a good chance of being a successful site, THEN people will be interested in helping out.

I'm not a coder myself, but that's the best advice I can offer. Good luck mate :).

Indeed.
Bear in mind that any PHP site will cover the 'basics', so there is no need to copy a site theme just so you can learn to program a bit better.
News, Columns, page content management and (very awkward) security and administration all come into every site design. It would do no harm To focus on something new and see where it goes from there. You're more likely to get people interest then.
