Long term unknown to auth is usually ..

a) Id's auth server went down

or more likely

b) your isp forgot where it was

Thanks FT triggered an idea......seems my boys who have been playing touring cars on my comp for a while now thought it would be fun yesterday tea-time to try and play it on the net (which they didn't manage to do)...This then added a stupid route to my routing table so that anything starting with 192 was going striaght to touring cars.
although its not completely solved I can atm put in a specific route to override it temp...but have to do this each time I connect to the net. For some reason it won't delete.

Thanks Fruity and Gaz for this morn..they have spent ages helping me sort it

Hi Guini :)

It may or may not be related ...... but yesterday I was getting 'client unknown to auth' every time I tried to connect to any server. Leaving it for 30 seconds worked, as it eventually connected every time. This happens every now and then I've noticed. Prolly something to do with ID's auth server mate.

Sorted

Was actually Toca Touring cars installation some how added a Route to Guini routing table of 192.0.0.0 and the gateway was her nic ?:(

Cant delete the route for some unknown reason as yet but a route add 192.246.0.0 with a gateway of he Internet connection at least lets he play till Gaz gets home and kicks here machine :D

can anybody help with this one..
If I do a ROUTE PRINT I see that I have a fixed route of 192.0.0.0 MASK 255.0.0.0 but ROUTE DELETE won't delete it

last thing I have to do to get it all back straight :)

Good you fixed your prob :)

But i was also getting this yesterday, its ID pissing about with there auth servers again, which in turn affects certain people in diferent ways depending how they are connected to the net, when you connect to a server, if you disconect and then dial a different isp straight away, then try and play q3, the auth server will say client uknown, basicaly because how it works is that when you connect to a server, the auth server binds your CD key to your IP address and stores it for 5 minutes after you left the server (for some weird reason), if some of you have this problem permanently, pop into #clan-ea and i can try help you fix it, one way to fix it is to put the auth servers address in your hosts file if you dont have it, give me a shout :)

As far as i know a few months ago ID turned there auth servers off, but by the sound of it there back on again :(
