Class/race question

OK so My friend showed me the homepage for this game this morning and I am hoping to buy it on the way home (love rpgs/love online games-woohoo)

He plays on Hibernia - on one of the barrysworld servers so I am prolly gonna start off as a firbolg and go for a warden character as they seem a nice mix of fighter/druid.

Does anyone play a firbolg warden or firbolg anything, I know they're big beasties.. Are they fun to play etc.

Thanks for any help that you can offer... sorry if this has been asked ad-infinatum in another forum

cheers

Don't really know much about them unfortunately, although the big purple ones do keep killing me in RvR :[

Well I have a Hunter on Mid and now a Druid on Hib and i have to say that the druid is by far the most entertaining and enjoyable char i've played. They are great soloing and even better in groups. Everyone loves you as you are the best healer in hib. So basically im loving the new char and the new realm :D

Nice one Aph3x

I chose to go with a Firbolg Naturalist as I had mentioned, this gives me the option to go Druid or Warden when I get to a decent level. At the moment I am still in the training bits as I only got in last night @ 10pm and had to be up early for work today.

Hopefully when I know a little bit more of what I am doing I will wander about and meet you :) Until I know what I am doing though I think I might just hide near the towns and kill bugs n stuff :)

Are you on the Excalibur server?

I was in a nice group last night maybe 1 or 2 too many healers tho, i think we had 5 ppl there that could do the healing but there was a warden there, now these handy ppl are healers and can actually tank if needed which is good for a healer. They also get a fend bubble which basically means that they nake the mobs miss there 1st hit. Wardens also get buffs self/realm and a handy little speed buff too. The guy that was playing the char said that he was enjoying playing it which at the end of the day is why you bought the game in the 1st place. There is also the choice of a Bard, these guys get the top speed buff and play other handy little songs like the skald on mid but they can also heal, their 1 downfall as i can see it is they cant really hit too many things so it might be hard work going solo. Just a few things to think about before you make your choice, hope it helps :)

HI Again

Sorry no - I am on the Prwyden server. I suspect that I will indeed go warden (eventually) as I think they offer the best of both worlds to the party and the soloist. I am still tempted by druid however...

Bards hold no attraction for me as a playing class. The only songs I would want my character to sing would be thrash metal melldies :D

personally i find the most fun class to play is actually the nightshade ;) im sure the attraction seems a little lost to many of you, but all makes sense when you make that first 1-shot kill :D

I like minstrel, oooo the wind in your face as you rush after an evil ranger on your speedsong :D

Ha! that's when I turn and stun/mez you then laugh as I run off while you stand motionless...
Not to mention, by the time you get that shout we'll probably have realm abilities, I'm planning to get the in combat speed boost ability :D
Not to mention it's somewhat suicidal for a shade to try and take on a minstrel hand-to-hand without getting a PA in, sure you want to throw that shout? :D

Minstrels rock, bards use the wrong instrument for speed song... stupid fools :D

On the subject of Shade PAs, what's up there, they're puny! Iziz an orange con shade hit me twice with PAs today, both times for less than half damage. One was 222... my DD shouts do more than that on a yellow!
Was kind of funny really... Iziz PAe and got in the follow up CD therefore stunning me, agh, then I managed to throw my stun and the poor thing got PAed from behind by the infiltrator I was grouped with... was down before I could finish my mez :p

Hmm, sounds like we'll have to get Iz some new piercers ... 222 ispretty crapy damage.

nightshades are fun to play, with their fighting skills it looks like they kill mobs/players while dancing

PAed from behind by the infiltrator

pa is front-positional ;)

as for ns damage its down to speed more than anything, i can hit for more with a speed 5.0 stick non-speccable, than with a speed 2.6 rapier :( (by about 120 on damage cap)

Speed Type Damage Cap Effective DPS
2.6 Pierce 480ish 12.8
3.5 Pierce 510ish 11.16
5.0 Stick 600ish 11.57

if i could use a 2-hander of speed 5ish i am sure i could pa for a lot more :) as it is none of those weapons cap my dps, least of all the speed 3.5 pierce. unfortunatly there are only a few speed 3.5 piercers, and most of them are crafted

PC Guarded Rapier (present best in realm = Saphire by Ortunga, dps 12.0 spd 3.5) (if anyone can do diamond TELL ME NOW!!!)
Shard of Light (Cursed Forest rare high-level drop) :(

thats it i think :(

Oh fair enough I was a bit busy trying to whip my flute out for the mez...

As for weapons, they sound a bit low, I'm using a 13.2dps 3.5 spd 100% qual slashing blade atm, with a 79 fire proc. That is till next level (that being 42) when my epic blade comes in - 14.2 dps 3.x spd 100% qual and a 79 energy proc ;) Is hib really short on decent otds and such?

No, but there just aren't SLOW piercers that would pack a huge punch on the first hit. A NS can stick you full of holes very fast, but they need to land several shots to (maybe) kill a tank class. That's not going to help against all the instacast geeks out there... :(
