There was a show recently on discovery called Storm Force 2050 i think (something like that anyways) - it predicted the extreme weather due to climate change for the year 2050 (hence the name).

One group of people say climate change is due to us polluting the planet...

Another group say thats what the Earth does. It goes through periods of change...could be due to continental shifts and what not

Who really knows what the right answer is as there is no real proof for either theory...

I'd love to see evidence of that.
I wasn't saying omg we're all going to die tomorrow kind of thing, I was saying that the earths climate, over a geological timescale, is fucking variable. Since decent recorded history, the climate has changed a bit (the usa used to be a lot more fertile and less arid when it was first settled by us disease ridden europeans), but not much, and it WILL change more. Maybe not particularly soon, maybe it WILL be soon - but in any case, there will be a point in time where the climate changes to the point where human existence would be hard, very hard.

There is no evidence to suggest that the frequency of hurricanes will increase due to climate change, even Greenpeace, the IPCC and other environmentalist organisations will admit to that.

In fact, the recent hurricane record shows a decline in frequency and intensity since 1940, contrary to the global warming pattern.

Saying stuff like "two Katrinas per week" is pure fantasy and scaremongering.

Read Michael Crichton's 'State of Fear' - OK so it's a work of fiction, but it does reference a lot of scientific research that contradicts the scaremongers who shout about 'Global Warming' etc.

At the very least it should encourage people to do more reading around the subject rather than just spouting whatever the Daily Mail happened to mention this week.

Oh yes, I almost forgot ... Clarkson rocks.

"If you keep playing with it, it's only going to keep hurting!" is the curiously vague statement I'm going to throw into this debate. Please ponder. :eek7:

Clarkson acts a bit of a fool, and I'm sure he knows it. We need more fools.

I havent bothered to read all the replies to this thread yet, but, clarkson is a smarmy irritating narcissistic arsehole. But he's fucking funny, knows he's a ****, and has fun doing what we all would like to do.
Fair play to the curly-haired fuckass.
Clarkson rocks. (Even though he is a fucking ****)

(apologies if this has nothing to do with the thread, i didnt bother to read it bar the title)

You miss my point, I was not nesesarily talking about hurricanes, just general weather that makes it tough for humans to survive - be it cold or hot. This will happen, and not because of our tiny influence on the global climate in a geological timescale, but because of shifts in earths orbit and tiny fluctuations in the suns intensity and a million other factors.

It worries me that people are so taken-in by him. He's an entertainer, his views shouldn't be taken so seriously. The last thing we need is people being even more apathetic towards environmental problems than they already are.

The last thing we need is people paying any more attention to greenies. They're the most selfish bastards you could meet - everything is wrong, unless they say so.

And they smell.

I really dont think we have the technology to have make major improvements to the environment...

Call me when we are able to terraform a planet such as mars in an affordable way.

I'm starting to lean towards the thought that if we carry on the way we are we will have very little impact on the environment as far as global warming etc goes...

One of the things I dont like is seeing is people killing of certain species of animals and plants....these things we really do need to preserve.
