OK, I just spent ages making this clan, almost ready to start playing, and then I happen to see another clan with the same name! I am going to change the name now, but how do I know that that one has not already been used? Is there some kind of list or something?
Hope someone will be able to help me.

go to www.theclq.com and search for people playing with the prefix you want.

It's not infallible, and you should probably check the last time they played, since it has every prefix used on public Q2 servers in the last year or so.

I just went to that page as well. I have only ever played Quake 2 once, but yet I am listed. How? Why? Wha?

I was quite impressed when I saw it for the first time.
Not only did I get abetter score than expected but GA more than tripled in size.

and some of them were quite good.

does it cover America though? Cause if so then over half the stuff there wont matter.

any alias that has ever been used on any public Q2 server (one that is referred to in one of the master server lists) in one of the recognised mods since about march 1998 (I think) for more than 1 minute will be listed there.

It also started supporting other games recently, I think these included QW, HL, Sin and TFC, but i'm not sure.

It uses something along the same lines as Gamespy to get the scores of each player every minute, so it isnt totally accurate, it's method for finding scores is also quite controversial.
