If you connect at 40,000 bps you should set your rate to 4000.

Before you change it check what your current rate is though...so we can see if that was the problem.

To see what it is currently, go into the console (the button left of 1) and type "rate" (without the "").
To change it just type "rate 4000" (without the "").

Also, if your running windows98 you might want to check out these pages.

Dont mess about with any settings if your not willing to experiment - if you mess anything up dont come crying to me :)

It may not only be your rate setting, could be your ISP -if you have a cheap and cheerful ISP its not going to be good for gameing. Also once you have sorted your rate setting go over to http://www.lagless.com and read and do what they suggest.

The error that you are talking about is not due to your modem, poor isp or a crapy computer. it is an error at the server end. the computer that is running the game may be very poor and can not handle the amount of data going through it and when this happens it goes very slow. this will affect most players in the game at once but not all. it depends on many different factors all of witch is at the server end. if you are using a server that gives this problem often then i sugest changing servers. i have seen the problem happen almost every time some one shoots on one server and almost never on another and hosts more players. so look around.

no cl_flushpacketentity is indeed your rate / isp / dodgy telephone line, check the sites deady posted also try UChaps CS tweak guide at http://www.upsetchaps.cjb.net/ConnectionFAQ/ConnectionFAQ.htm

You will get this message all the time regardless of what server your on if you don't optimise your connection :)

I played CS for ages on a 56k modem - pinging under 200 always, plenty good enough to table top :)

XS... ok if it is due tor your isp/phone line then how come that when i go to a server called "Whats the point" playing with about 18 people on a T1 connection i get it almost once every 2-3 minets but on any other server it is ok, even playing with up to 32 players. I have even tryed using my home 56k modem with the same servers and they still get the same result

I used to get the cl_flushentitypacket error quite frequently after I had been messing around with my modem settings.

One thing I narrowed it down to was one specific setting on the modem.

Go to control panel and double click on modems.
Select properties.
Select connection
Select advanced.
make sure that "Use error control" is ticked

I took this off thinking that it is not that important - ended up with the CL_flush errors about 4 in every game.

Give it a try
