I just picked this up cause I had an hour to spend. It's now 5 hours later and I am still in my boxers! What a wonderful game, so simple yet oh so fucking complicated and frustrating at times :D

Aren't you on holiday in Spain or something? Shouldn't you be out pulling skank?

Have a GF at home, so no. I'm here the next four months, so I am in no hurry. I got a hangover today and besides that it is a bit cloudy so it's only like 29C outside! Not going to the beach like that bro..

Civ 2 was '96 and Civ 1 was '91

When are we going to see games approaching this level of depth and comlexity on mobile or online platforms? A phone screen might be a little small for civ (though it could work) but it'd be fantastic on a 10" screen

On a tab I can imagine it being fucking ace. Doesnt eat your battery, you don't fire birds, slice fruit, roll pigs, throw frisbees or any other shit. You fucking conquer the world on your tab while sitting on the bus making your way to work!

There's definitely a niche in the market for "mid-range" games. Something with a price tag between £10 and £20 with a decent amount of depth to it. Wouldnt even have to be something new, I've love an android version or Civ, MoO2 or hell BG2 would work fantastic on a tablet! Everything's controlled through big buttons and single clicking.

I actually prefer Civ2 over any of the others. the newer ones just aren't very good. The latest being a car crash of a game.

Civ 4 was great fun I thought, however, I'm sure I spent more time on 2 and 3. Although it was a long time ago!

Indeed. Also the jumping on the DLC bandwagon is such a shame.

Funnily enough, DLC is what the gamers want these days ;)

It's not just a marketing ploy to get cashies out of zitpopping tweens, but actually a preferred style by gamers for longevity.

In short, since fans want so much stuff, they are more pleased with a "smaller start, lots of add-ons" instead of a "big box, forgotten title".

DLC is fine when it adds to the original experience (Fallout being a perfect example) It's just a cash in when it should be content that was in the original.

It's not quite clear cut, even if your post is in it's core exactly how it should be. For example people are fine with the Warhammer 40k co-op being a DLC. This should've been in the start. Understandable why it's not from a gamedev pov.

Fallout, i agree with the quality of the DLC and the addition to the world, but i for one would prefer a DLC(byrelease if nothing else) that would add a ton of stuff in the original world, instead of instance hopping. So basically adding stuff that should've been from the start, would be fine. This ofcourse comes from the replay value of the game being so immensive that it supports the addition of even core features.

Two examples where both are mentioned in your post(which i agree on mind you), yet people have a weird tendency to judge some and then accept others.

The majority rules, and as such majority is a bunch of instant gratification morons who don't know what they want :D

Core agreement stands though; clear money grabbing DLCs should be abolished.

The 40k Coop DLC is apparently going to be free though, so it's not a case of cashing in it's just giving you the best of both worlds: The game as soon as possible and coop when it's ready for no extra cost.
