I have probably 10,000 hours across all the Civ games, and I feel like they're going backwards. Civ 4 was the pinnacle. 5 was meh, and I bounced hard of 6. Did a single campaign and didn't feel the need to go back.

You and me both dude. Steam isnt even showing me IV. I got a little under 400h in V yet dont have it installed atm. Some 15h in VI; last played 2017.

I'm going to be controversial and say I really like 6. I think they've added quite a lot to it over the years.

However, what I don't see is how 7 is going to be a massive departure. What can they do massively differently to improve it to be worth another number?

I might give that a try. I just found it a huge meh after the joy of IV. Maybe I didnt give it the attention it deserved.

Well Civ7 looks sexy as fuck - this is their official gameplay showcase

I've not actually listened to it (on an all day fucking workshop) but it looks great.

I hear that they're dealing with the later-game grind by having sort of epochs or chapters which make the game meaningful and exciting throughout the whole game - rather than for the first 100 turns or so...

I mean, I'm buying it. I already owe them the money from the amount of hours I've played Civ 6. Probably works out about 15p/hour...

They tried it with the era thing, but that was so easy to game, it because pointless.

They need to do something about resources, the moment you can get ali and uranium, just control those nodes, or as many as you can, and completely remove opponents from the end game.

Just watched it. A little unsure on the change civ thing during ages, I like a long play, with plans over the ages, but different might be good.

Also, future age DLC, calling it now.

Do not like pre-order/news letter exclusive content bollocks, that can get in the bin.

£60 pre-order, fuck no.
I'm not offended by that price given the number of hours I'll likely put into it.

For me the shame is that it's February - I start stretching my legs on my bike about then to get some fitness in me before the summer :)
