I'd say build your own if you're on a tight budget, but maybe thats just me.

I would say build your own too, or buy a lappy.

Building your own's easier said than done. If you don't know the first thing about building your own PC, you gotta buy pre-made. And a lot of sites about self-building are truly shite TBH.

I built my first pc when I was like 14. Can't be that difficult surely? Since then I've built at least high double figures (In and out of work)

You just need tips from a friend and a bit of common sense. Hell if necessary I'd give the thread starter a bollock load of tips on building, what to get, how to put it together etc.

It's really not as difficult as it sounds to build a pc.

If you don't feel like building one yourself try one of the mesh pentium builds, however their lower budget ones would require an upgraded graphics card. However on their pricing the upgrades are vvv expencive

Depending on what you need, building your own might not even be cheaper. Often is, and you actually get what you want, but getting a Dell or HP orso, often is cheaper if all you need is a machine to run Word and Excel on.

There's a time and place (and a certain type of customer) for self-built systems.

and ijm770, that top link you show (goldenelectronics) looks like pretty good value for money to be honest. I'd pick that one over the lower one.

Agreed and, unusually, their upgrade options aren't that stupidly expensive - although as always if you want to change the software (XP pro rather than home for example) it will be much cheaper to buy it elsewhere.

One thing is if you plan to upgrade individual components in the future then do seriously consider building your own as you will generally find it harder to upgrade a pre-built machine mainly due to the MB (not always, but tends to be true). If that's not something you want to do then pre-built is fine.
