CHEATERS IN Q2 "invisable monsters from the deep"

Hi there, i just played on minos, and there were loads of people on, graze being one of them, the thing is there was a cheater, i think graze can back me up on this. Its like, i was walking along nicely and casualy minding my own business when in front of me i saw two packets of shells dissappear, although there was no player there, i thought in amazement "WOW" "what the fooks going on" I was then set upon by the invisable monster who must of being weilding a super shotgun, i managed to escape with some of my life intact, but with a dented feeling of wellbeing, as i could not defeat this invisable monster.
Ok enough of the story telling, all i want to do is aleart people who play on internet servers about the dangers of cheaters.
Ive seen this invisable trick before, although not on such a quality server as MINOS, just wondering if theres any way of the admins to fix this problem?
Anyway what is this cheat and how is it done ??
anyone know ? or encounterd some of the same type of cheaters. CHEATERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES !!!.

Yup, I was there, and there was a few other ppl complaining as well about this cheater, and it carried on when you left, frankie. In fact, one bloke even pointed out who it was, although I won't say who it was, as he was probably aliasing anyways

Something like that happened in the UK vs. Sweden match not long ago... apparently some swedes managed to hack themselves into being invisible - all bar a pair of floating eyes... stylish. Maybe it was something like that... I dunno.

I was playin on a DM server a month or two ago and saw someone using the alias "spike" and he/she had over 130 frags!! WTF!!
But when i double checked on Gamespy it said 10 ish?
Hmmmm, more of the same?

Those people really p**s me off. Why on earth do they do it? It's not like they have anything to gain... people usually play for fun, and that takes the fun out. They're just ruining it for themselves.
I played a Lithium II server last week and some guy hacked it so that he got all the runes (i know cos i had 180 health and he killed me with one railgun shot, and I heard the 'vampire' sound AND the 'regen' sound) but he shall remain nameless (*ahem*Noodles...)

we get cheaters quite often on BW ctc
including the invisible trick (you just see a trail of feathers from nowhere) but for me the most annoying thing is when people turn ctc on and off or respawn chook while i'm holding it, or the tossers who dont chase chook carrier but concentrate on barging pursuers into lava\slime. Ok a bit of argy-bargy when queing for weapons is ok but these llamas just spoil it for all.
My remedy in the case of ctc is a spot of gang fragging for the guilty party by concerned players but it needs a bit of co-operation between us, mind you I have lost count of the amount of times I have been accused of cheating by people who think its DM and cant understand how I survive 3 rail shots

I've seen a few in recent weeks, somone (cant remember who) pointed out that if you think someone's invisible, if you chasecam them, Instead of giving their model/skin at the bottom of the screen - it prints /none.
so if you suspect someone - you can check if they're cheatin !- (and maybey take a screenie for a hall of shame !)

my friends played a one on one ages ago (one dialed up to the other) - the same thing happened, one could not see the other

maybe a bug in q2 and they know how to exploit it?

People cheat because they are no good at the game.They cannot stand getting beat.It's as simple as that.

I have to agree with Trekker - ppl who cheat arnt worth the hassle.
Im no good that much is true.
But never the less i enjoy improving my play, without the aid of help from a bot/aid of some form.
Its stupid to think that cheating would make you any better, and certainly would turn ppl against the players, ruining the players chance of becoming known and successful within the q2 community

Exactly, the whole idea is to enjoy yourself.Not many can claim to be "experts" at q2, but if you enjoy yourself whether good or bad then you have gained what you want from the game.Anyone who cheats cannot honestly say they gain pleasure from it, they just think they have got one over everyone else.But they don't fool anyone.Anybody who plays for themselves is twice the person that does not.

Cheaters suck! Why the hell do these ppl want to cheat for. Are they that bad? I don't believe anyone can be so bad that they need to start cheating.
Do the players that go around in their cloaked state really feel the excitement of a true q2 battle? I don't think so. They are cheating everyone on the server. And the saddest thing is that they are also cheating themselves.

I suspect it would involve using a custom player model that is about 0.1x0.1x0.1 units?

That's how I would do it, anyway...

Don't post the cheat .. I would suggest the only people who could have a legitimate reason for knowing it would be Ted, DBs and Zarjazz (btw .. might be worth passing on to Zarjazz if you haven't already .. he may be able to do something about it with bw-admin .. if that doesn't catch it already).

I don't think custom player models would work because if your opponent didn't also hae the model, they'd see you as the default model+skin (male/grunt or whatever).

Am I wrong?

if anybody in the whole world wanted that information about the cheat then they could of easyily got it from somewhere, anyway i think that the people who have replied to this post are reputable ( apart from kryten, dodgey geezer ) so us people knowing wont make much of a difference. IF we knew how these scum did what they do and how they cloaked then we might find a way of catching them out ( maybe we could transverse into subspace where they hide ) and getting these scum to stop.

I remember a game on a CTC server where a group of regular players exploited a bug that lets you go invisible to have a game where all players were invisible. Because you can still find the guy with the chicken from the trail of feathers he leaves, this made an interresting variation to the game.
