Cheater on pubs!!!

Playing last night [cF]Ced, [cF]Sage and myself noticed a player OBVIOUSLY using autobeacon (for those of you that don't know what it is go visit my webby for a screenshot at www.danzer.clara.net under the files section (PLEASE NOTE THE CHEAT SCRIPT IS NOT THERE i just couldn't be bothered to create a new button). We tried in vain for 15 mins trying to get him voted off but he was obviously a clanned member playing under an alias along with what i suspect were other members of his clan playing under aliases also, it took us 15 mins to get him kicked (totally ruining which would otherwise have been a good game). May i suggest that in future any people suspecting this cheat being used seeks an admin in #uktl to sort it out quickly, as newbies could easily lose interest VERY quickly (and its not much fun for us experienced either). I tried looking for admins in irc myself last night but none around (goddam real life issues :) )

Ouch!
This is the first time that I've actually heard of anyone even seeing autoBeacon in use.
Are you THAT certain this player was using autoBeacon? Is it possible that this player was using sky patterns? The only reason I ask is because I know of people who can take out the turrets on Broad/Blastide in 3 mortars without missing (as a good example).

If i had ANY doubt's at all i wouldn't have posted in the first place, the player concerned made no attempt to deny nor confirm use of script, and the fact that people were still voting an "unknown" player not to be kicked after we asked for him to be kicked for using it says everything! The map in question was snowblind and he was literally mortaring as he was walking along looking up! never missing! from various places behind hills etc...

Lets establish a few points before this gets out of hand .

Firstly THERE WAS NO CHEATING .
The player was not voted out .
The player was an aliased tribed player.
There were no other members of that tribe playing.
It was not going to be a good game .

How do I know all this ? . Simple I was that aliased player ( which I guess is why I was not available in IRC.)
The map was Snowblind , the teams were 10 v 10 but skill wise very biased to one team ( as ego points out he , sage and ced were on one team ). I went heavy def then got killed after about 4-5 mins , I then went thru a process of spawning and dying about 10 times , from 2 heavies camping our base , from mines on the spawn at tower and from mine/disk combinations at the tower . I managed to spawn, repair tower and kit up as light , I then trashed enemy tower and beaconed it . then I kitted as heavy and mortared my beacon . on about my second reloading I had a bunch of lights come after me , I got knocked off our tower and chased by lights dumping mines/grens and fusors on me , all I did was aim fire then move (then die ). I was immediately accused of cheating and being a lamer ( by the person who was mining our respawn ) . It then became a game of up to 3 lights chasing me round the map with me stopping briefly to fire 1 or 2 mortars then moving again . As long as I got my 10 mortars off before dying I was happy  . I was fully expecting my beacon to be destroyed by the enemy on my second or third salvo ( this is a tactic used against me at least 6 months ago ) . the beacon stayed up till the end of the game ( about 25 minutes after the game started with nil score by my team ) . after being accused of using something I had never heard of and hounded around the map by lights using mine/gren/disc scripts I was having more fun then just being respawn killed in our base or tower .

At the beginning of the next game I publicly explained to ced how I did it .

Was it a lame tactic ? You decide , but also think about teams obviously unbalanced in skill , respawn mining , camping base as heavy (killing spawning lights ) , tower camping as light or heavy . All these were being used against my team in that game. Normally as soon as a team uses this tactic the opposing team immediately realises whats going on and destroys the beacon ending it.

Fair enuf, i appologise rhoadie but with all these cheats goin around it did look like a cheater at work, maybe a good idea not to alias i think as if we'd have seen it was you or you had even said in global chat that you were rhoadie i would never of accused you or started thread in the first place.

Surprised no one looked for a beacon as it’s a fairly common tactic on bw.

Shiva is pretty easy to spot, but mortar spamming is pretty useless as a tactic anyway.

Well the first I knew about something called "auto-beacon " being released was when I was accused by you of using it. Also this is the first time I have heard of "blink mortar" , is this something new or just another name for auto-beacon ?.

The thing I find sad is how often tagged and aliased players gang up these days on public servers against a weaker team and totally rape them . I seem to see this happening almost on a daily basis .Anyone who knows some of my aliases will know that where possible I always try to play on the weaker team .

I have thought long and hard about the tactics I used in that game , and I have had feedback from people playing in the team I was spamming against . I know I affected the enjoyment of the game for some members of that team . I dont think any of my team were having much fun at the start of the game totally overwhelmed by the other team , our base taken by 2 heavies , our respawn points being constantly mined and spammed . I believe I extended the game and it would have been shorter then the 25 minutes it actually lasted if I hadnt slowed down the heavy offence and kept up to 3 enemy lights busy chasing me around the map . If this made the game more fun for my team , which I believe it did , then my tactic was valid.

I agree what you say above Rhoadie but if people used their proper alias then we would know how to treat newbies and not camp/spam/mine respawn etc. but for all i know your entire team could have been made up of aliased players! With the amount of aliasing that is going on lately it is becoming increasingly hard to have a good close game on any public servers. All i can say is role on Tribes 2 nick registration!

I was on a pub server last night, and came across the thing u mentioned above Rhoadie about 1 sided teams.

The map was Simoom, and there was me and wot seemed like 9 newbies on one team, and the other team had around 4-5 players from the same clan....they all joined, and ended up in the same team.

I did ask them if they could change, because the sides were unbalanced. One did, but that was all.

I eventually quit the server, cos the game was not in the slightest bit fun.

I just wish that Dynamix could do some sort of rating system based on performance, and then some forced team balancer, that would ensure one sided teams are a thing of the past.

Now in the past, I have been guilty of being on a 1 sided team, and doing nothing. BUt no more. Now Ill change to even the team......on one occasion, 1 tribed player followed me, and tk'd me cos he said he didnt like team changers...no pleasing some ppl :)

After playing in some very enjoyable ETL matches over recent weeks I’d agree with CeD, playing clan matches and public games is almost like playing 2 different games.

I’ve noticed many players would are quite vocal when their losing 8-0 yet after players swap or drop and their team starts to win 8-0 become strangely silent.

From a defence pov it can be more fun to be on the weaker side, but its always nice to have some teamwork though chances are if your team has teamwork its the strong side.
