The powercolor ones here are listed as 220quid.. dont think Ive seen them cheaper anywhere else... bargin for anyone thinking of upgrading anytime soon
The Powercolor is indeed the cheapest one i've seen, and it is the one i've bought.
It's a smashing card with a low noise fan, however cooling is quite minimal so if you're overclocking it might be an idea to get some ramsinks. I'ver ordered a few of these which i can trim to fit the memory chips to improve the cooling.
I managed a 412 Core and 360 MHz mem speed, but i did notice a couple of visual artifacts appear on some DX9 tests (ATi techdemos for example), hence the purchase of the heatsinks for the ram chips as the Powercolor is pretty lax on the cooling front.
I daresay that the improvement over stock speeds was fairly small and I'm not sure if it's worth the heat to have it clocked highly.
I wouldnt bother tbh.
Having said that, and at the risk of saying this for the 3rd time, be aware that this card appears to play some games that work on OpenGL, a bit slower than a cheaper , "lower spec" NVidea card.
In fact, I tried Q3 Urban Terror last night and was down to 40 fps in places, whereas on my GF4 i was a solid 125 fps.
You sure that fsaa and anisotropic filtering aren't on? Mine were on by default when i put my 9800 pro in. I've been playing some botmatched on Q3 at 1600*1200 and the fps never drops (or not anywhere near 40fps).
Didnt say q3 mate, said q3 urban Terror.
The q3 timedemo I did before removing the GF4 did about 245-250 fps.
At the same resolution the ATI card returns about 5 or so fps less. The advantage I suppose, is that if you up the res to 1600-1200 it still gives the same result. However, as I play at 1024-768 its not that much of an advantage
Games like BF1942 (ie. D3D games) run a bit faster, and more importantly look superb, and newer OpenGL games like SoF2 seem unaffected.
However Q3 is a little bit slower (in fairness, not enough to notice in-game) and Half Life games like CS are the same.
