Time to replace my linux server at home, any recommendations on where to shop ?

the cheaper the better !

at least 40GB HDD and 256MB memory (512 would be nice then I can VMWare a windows server too) no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse, no sound, bog standard on board video would be fine.

For around 200 you can get a sempron and 512mb spec from novatech. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pcrange.html?ICO

If you want to go cheaper I guess you could try building a Slot A, XP3200 based machine, though youll have trouble finding processors that old from most retailers and ebay or some such might be your best bet.

could get a cheaper hdd but i think you will prefer reliablity over cheapness when it comes to linux,
also i am not sure if the processor is included in the barebones it is as far as i can tell but you might want to check

If it doesn't state it has CPU it doesn't have one.

had a go at making one for cheaper, couldnt really manage it.

i personally would go with the secondhand market, look on www.freeads.net i had my old PC on there a month or so back, was a xp 2100+, 512 MB ram, 80GB hdd, CD burner, nice black case with see through window, and a GE-Force 4800ti, and all i could manage to get for it was 60 quid in the end (just alot of PCs on there that people dont seem to want.)
