Charity idea thing.

Basically, during Uni, I wanna go travelling in an Asian country, not sure yet, Vietnam, Singapore, the countries 'round there, before hand I was planning to do some charity events, but instead of sending the money to a charity, I was planning on taking money with me, and donate money to needing people as I go along

This idea may sound completely ridiculous, and I'm expecting the usual haters to hate, but I'm geniunely considering this...

Would rather see the end product of the money donated, than giving it a charity and having no idea where the money actually gets to

Oh yeah - as a thing to go along with this, I was also thinking of doing some kind of system where people could 'vote' to where the money goes to...

The main reason I'm posting it to you miserable lot is because i'd like to hear some pro/cons and some constructive criticism for this!

It's like giving £10m in £1 coins directly to an african tribe, what the fuck are they going to do with it? build a pound coin house? these are things you gotta think of if you are doing this ..

If it was gifts, it would be understandable.

You go travelling to Vietnam and all the people you meet wont be in need of your charity because they'll be the same people that make money of every other fucking neckbeard that goes to find themselves in south east asia.

No, I didn't mean giving money directly to the locals, I meant more buying stuff from local places, and giving it as gifts, as opposed to shipping stuff across from the UK, local economy and al that jazz

i wouldn't recommend it, everyone will want a piece of the action. just buying stuff from the local people will be enough.

Just be a normal tourist, buy stuff you see and want to keep/gift to friends. That's all the support you can give, and willö most likely end up doing as any other tourit will.

Unless you're giving away wells and schoolhouses, the only benefit is that when you return to your luxury life of plasmas, xbox and porn on demand...you'll feel delusionally better about yourself. BAsically, you're talking about a trip of self-charity.

if you want to give money to worthy causes, find a charity you find acceptable

how are you going to find out who needs it, and who to give it to ? if someone came up to you in the street and went "you look poor,heres £20" wouldnt you be offended ?

if you want to HELP, do the "buy an african village a well" thing. people want help not charity, and im afraid this post smacks of self-aggrandisement ... first rule of charity work, dont tell everyone your doing it, it spoils the effect

if you want to make a real difference, make a real difference... if you want to do something you can use to validate yourself and assuage some of your first world->third world guild, then just give up already
