Just bought a Yam CDRW 4x4x16 SCSI and cant get it to format my CDRW's?!!!
When I do format it goes for about 30 mins and then goes into a windows fault screen (blue) and gives me the following message!

A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C109610D in VXD CDUDFRWC0D + 0000710D. The current application will be terminated.

When I press alt+ctrl+del to restart windows my system just hangs!

Coming to the conclusion that Microsoft OS's suck!!

Any help/advice would be MUCH appreciated.

Regards,

Rockhard

If you've just brought why are you formatting CDRW's? Did you have a writer before?

What software are you using? Have you tried setting it to a slower speed?

cheers for replying m8,

The CDRW i bought was a 4x4x16 coupled to an adaptect ISA 1505 SCSi controller (10mb/sec).
I was using directcd to format me cdrw's?
3 hours after starting format and still verifying?!!

I am running it at 4x write and 6x read. (This is what it sets itself up for when i do format?)

Solved hanging prob tho as win95 drivers at fault. Manually updated with ones on disk i got with drive and this solved prob, but when i tried to boot up me pc this morning it immediately hanged again. Taking out ISA controller solved this prob! (What a nightmare)

Took it back to shop i bought it from today for them to check out. They seem to think it may be the controller or the CDRW drive that is faulty!

This is my first CDRW drive so it is all new to me!

If you have any tips/advice on using it your comments/advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers m8,

rockhard

CDRW's. Great things.

But yes. Use decent CD's. Never forget that! And if its a Yamaha then it'll be a good/reliable writer aswell (only had problems with mine when I took it apart... ooops)

Infact, never bulk buy those crappy CD's, the ones that they do for 45p each or sumthin.. I can wholely recommend TDK's for your playstation warez, and erm... other ones for the rest of your stuff.

(Damn, slip of the tongue there, read "warez" as "backups"

Well, 1 quick thing to note is that recording CD-Audio to your CD-RW wont work in a CD-Player, it'll play in the computer but h=not in your Hi-Fi

Apart from that its pretty straight forward, also, if your using directCD lots of CD-ROM's won't be able to read the UDF file system so you may not be able to take it to your mates house to install software (legally of course!

If you have any other questions just post em here and i'll see what i can find out.

Just a little tip, DO NOT BUY CHEAP RE-RECORDABLES!!!

Or one day you will find all 500 meg of backup ruined.

Like I did the other day <wibble>
