CD key hijacked

God this is annoying

I get into the game today, literally 5 mintues ago and try to join a ranked game, I've played before with no problems, then I get the message:

"CD key already in use, if you believe your cdkey has been hijacked please contact EA customer support"

I bought the game legally for £25 at game from my local branch, I still have the receipt, now I get this crap.

then I read this:

I believe you can get new key by getting another copy of BF 2.

EA will tell you the same. There's no way they can check who did the wrong thing or right. Even with EA's general incompetence, the chances of someone generating a working online CD key are very very low. Even lower to get one someone else already has. Cheaters try this excuse all the time. It's a very old trick to say your key was hijacked.

And the innocent people it does happen to on the very very rare occasion get caught up in it. And thus nearly all companies have a blanket policy blocking anyone from getting anywhere with that kind of reason for thier CD key no longer working.

Sorry about that, but your out of luck. Blame cheats and hacks.

This makes me feel sick, so some tosser with a keygen has pikey'd my key, and now EA wont do anything about it? I dont have much cash atm, being a student I have to justify what I buy, I shouldnt really have bought BF2 but it looked good, and I thought, what the hell. now I cant even play the stupid game online, what a waste of money. :(

I've been looking for a place to do that, however the closest I've come is seeing a form to fill in when a CD key is missing from the manual.

I havent seen any ea support email addresses yet though.

Game have to take it back under the sale of goods act as being not fit for the purpose. They may put up disclaimers in their store that a condition of sale is that they don't refund/exchange PC games but this can't override your statutory rights i.e. that it is fit for the purpose.

I would though try contacting EA if you can find a way.
They should accept some evidence such as your receipt and a photocopy of the cd key or similar as proof that it is yours.

Game may not take the game back for a refund, but they should swap it for the same thing. was it sealed when you bought it? Maybe somsone else has already owned that copy.

I've bought two DAoC games from GAME, both of which had used cd's and you can't use the damn game without the cdkey.. :p

They should really check stuff before just reselling it :(

I agree with Chets - if you exchange it for another copy of the same game they shouldn't have too many issues

GAME have to take back faulty CDs, and they don't resell returned PC games anymore (its precisely because everyone was using GAME to get hold of CD keys, downloading a no-CD crack and then using the 10 day return policy to get their money back that they took PC games out of the policy in the first place). If the game doesn't work because the CD key is no good, that's classed as faulty. Don't take no for an answer, you are entitled to an exchange or a refund.

My advice; buy your games off the website in future, the returns policies online are better by law, not just for the GAME site, but all e-commerce sites because of the Distance Selling Directive. And the returns at game.net are freepost.

Agree. You have proof you purchased BF2 wheras the person who's dup'ed your key doesn't. Ask EA if they will take your receipt as proof and give you a new CD Key. They can then ban the other person via their CD Key.

Thanks alot - been looking everywhere for somthing like that :)

Aye the game was sealed when I bought it - infact I actuallyed asked them for another one because the only ones they had on the shelves had been mashed a bit and the cases looked slightly damaged.

I dont usually buy games nowadays, but when I do I've always preferred buying them from the shops if possible because I get the game faster :) I have used websites to buy games but I tend not to buy this way because I dont like the idea that I'd lose the games if I had to format the drive. backing games up is also harder for me because I dont have a dvd-rw atm.

I'll try EA first, if they cant help I'll take it back to game, thanks alot for all the help.

People using the CD key of other people illegally is an activity normally associated with video game piracy. Arrgg is the sound of a pirate or at least as best can be represented on a forum. I suppose there could be different variations it's all down to human interpretation.

No problems with the CD key but I did get kicked off freddys #2 last night by punkbuster .. it was weird I was in an APC and was getting megga Lag all of a sudden then punkbuster kicked me ? Ended up having to reset the PC which seemed to cure the lag probs and the 2 minute ban was up.

I was not suggesting you are a pirate.....

I am not being sarcastic.....

Has to be said I have never in my life ever met a more sensitive bunch than at the BW forum. In theory based upon the psychology of such sensitive chaps the poetry and creative section of the forums should be ablaze with talent ;)

I had a similer problem with HL2, after much wrangling and a letter it was sorted. Those that cannot be bothered to go out and earn the money to buy a game choose to steal instead, this put's them on par with a chav stealing scum bag I agree. Except one has a skinhead and an attitude, the other is rather intelligent but with a computer and a bad attitude ;)

My mate used to work for game. Said they used to have some bloke who would come in daily swapping a game as 'he didnt like it'. They couldn't do anything as he's within his rights to return it after a set period. I would certainly make all attempts to contact EA. If you have indeed been hacked I doubt your the only one with this problem.

Yeah, they can. Its in the Returns policy terms and conditions that GAME can withdraw the no-fuss returns policy from individuals, and they can (and do) do it.

I bought a copy from a shop in Tottenham court Road. On the way home I noticed it said second hand on the box. I've had no problems with it nor has my brother but is it legal to sell stuff like that? (Sorry to go offtopic Dukat :/)

Technically, no, not for PC games, where you click a licence agreement (that's why Game don't do PC trade-ins, on legal advice). I'm guessing you bought your game at CEX? They've had trouble with PC and DVD trade-ins and trading standards before, but both they and Gamestation still do it.

Problem is, that nicked CD-Keys, things like Steam, and MMOs all make PC trade-ins a bit dicey. Personally I'd never touch a trade-in PC game unless it was a game I was never going to play online.

I was in an off mood because someone had stolen my CD key, having had CD key problems with EA products before I was very annoyed, also as I mentioned in my original post I dont have alot of money atm, so the prospect of the game being useless (aka offline only) kinda annoyed me, you will have to forgive me if I snapped at your posts.

Cheers for all the help though people :)

Game certainly don't take back PC games because "you don't like them" exactly for the reason DaGaffer points out. 90% of the brand new games being released now require a CD Key and/or online registration of some description, rendering a second hand copy useless for online play, plus the hacks of course.

Nice to hear you sorted it Dukat! well done m8.
