cd key hassles

I'm getting the error 'cd key not valid' when trying to register an account. I have checked and rechecked, I've also looked at the sierra support site, they answer the question regarding duplicate cd keys but not invalid ones.

is it possible that their auth server is down???
or is there any other known problem...

hope someone can help

Fizz

P.S. I bought the game, the cd key I have is genuine:D

I seem to recal that it could give you that error when something else was wrong, like the login name you are trying is already taken. Try changing your login name.

There was some trouble at release when it would say that because of some other reason but stil register you, then the next time you tried your CD key was actually in use by you.

Try getting the auth servers to e-mail you your password under the first couple of usernames you tried.

thnx guys, hopefully they're gonna send me my details. 'till then I'm gonna play CS.

changing the topic now...

having looked through various forum/news/info pages it seems that this game is as buggy as hell, I can't wait to play it but am not looking forward to all the hassles of bug fixing. The same thing happened to black & white, I know lots of people who bought that (me included), played for a week, got pissed off with all the bugs and left it on the shelf...
I have no doubt that B&W could have been a HUGE game if it worked properly when released.

Shame on you publishing houses for releasing early, let the developers finish the game 1st please...

Damn... back to the original topic... sorry to be a nuisance

I asked the question at sierra tech support and they told me to send the number to tribes2account@sierra.com and this was their reply...

Thank you for contacting Technical Support,

The CD-KEY you sent us was not a valid Tribes 2 CD-KEY. Please reply with the correct CD-KEY so we may look up your account name.

Sincerely,
Technical Support

Now, I'm not blind, I'm not senile, I've bought a genuine kosher copy of the game, and I've checked the number so many times I'll remember it when I'm 90. So I was just wandering if anyone else has had a dodgy key code on their copy of tribes 2...

aaaaaaaargh:upyours:

Fizz <---- pissed off

P.S. If anyone is interested in a LAN party, I've got one organised for 14th July...
£10, 9.00 - 11.00, Oxford, reply 4 more details ;)

Although the shops are told not too, you didn't buy a second hand version of the game?

It was brand new chap, everyone seems to think that the key has already been taken but it's just not the right number. I may as well just type random numbers into the log in screen till it works.

I realise you've probably tried this, but, are you are you entering zeros instead of 'O's or something.

(I can't actually remember the format\case\type of code it used cos, I'm at work)

I'm sure I'm not getting numbers mixed up with letters but here's but format of my code... L= Letter N = Number

LLLN-LLLN-LLLN-LLLN-NNNN

is this the correct format?

C

that is my format.

take it back to the shop and demand another copy.

O

Yeah. Seems thats the standard format then, since mine matches it.

It's probably not worth much, but, you could try sending in a scanned copy of your code to technical support (and the receipt would help a lot if you still have it).

Otherwise, I'd also suggest taking it back to the shop and exchanging it.

I feel your pain. I know how good the game is...and I'm probably about to lose my connection for two months (moving house), so I won't be able to play either.

Here's the edited highlights of an email dialogue and tech support at sierra....

Fizz-
When trying to create an account I get the error message 'invalid CD key, please check your cd key and try again' (or something like that anyway) I've checked and rechecked and I have entered it exactly as it appears on the cd case. This error seems a little different from the 'cd key already in use' error that appears in your questions database

Please send an e-mail to tribes2account@sierra.com.

NOTE: it will be necessary to include the Tribes 2 CD Key exactly as it appears on the CD case and the specific e-mail address used during the account creation.

Dear Technical Support

The cd key I sent you originally (see below) is the number printed on the front of the booklet in the cd jewel case. I presume that this is the number required by your servers for authentication as it is marked 'Key Code:' next to the number. I have checked the number several times during my attempts to register, several times when writing my previous email, I have tried caps and lower case too (that didn't make any difference) and I've just checked it... just to make sure it's right.

****-****-****-****-****

This IS the number. If you like, I can scan a copy of the booklet and send you the picture (in jpg format so it won't be too big).

I have attatched your reply to my original question to the bottom of this email.

My daytime (UK) email is andrew.something@somewhere.com
or you can reply to this address

Please help, I'd like to play the game and I'd hate to think that I've wasted £30 on a game with a printing error (

Regards
Andy

Thank you for your reply Andy,

Please send us a scan copy of the Tribes 2 CD-KEY. We will then verify the CD-KEY for you.

Sincerely,
Technical Support

Fizz (Thinks 'AT LAST!!!')-

Dear Tech Support,

Here's a scanned image of the cover, as you requested,

Hope this helps

Tech Support-
Thank you for your message Andy.

We were able to verify that your CD-KEY has been banned because another user encountered problems creating an account. Therefore, it appears you purchased a used copy of Tribes 2. Your best option will be to obtain a refund for your copy of Tribes 2 and repurchase a new copy of the game.

Sincerely,
Technical Support

I won't post my reply to this here, it was not a nice email.

why can't they validate this key for me? (as they said they would) I know it's not a used copy. it was straight off the shelf from pc world, who don't take games back if they're opened. (I'm gonna have fun trying to take this back, I just know it). I guess some hacker tried to use the number and it got banned, which is unlucky for me, but they could help me out here, after all, if you pay £30 for a game you kind of expect it to work, or if it doesn't work, someone should take responsibility for it not working.

Well, when you go back to PC World (bunch'o'cunts TM) take copies of all of the emails sent back and forth between you and Sierra.

Quite probably you got screwed by pcworld.

Someone bought the game from them, took it back and said "I dont like it" "Its crap", etc, and pcworld decided to reseal it and sell it again as new (this happens quite often).

Take it back and complain loudly.

Took the game back to PC world and managed to speak to a decent bloke who's into online gaming. He said 'yeah this is the second one of these we've had back, the stupid bastards here just put em back on the shelf if someone brings em back. They've got no idea that the cd key has been nicked'
He then slapped a big 'unservicable' sticker on the box so it wouldn't go back on the shelf - top bloke.
Fortunately they didn't have another copy in stock, so I just got my money back, which suited me fine.

I think I'll stick to counter-strike for a while longer
