I've been driving a leased car (through the council) for the past 6 years, never had any bumps or claims. How do I stand with no claims discounts now I'm moving job and having to buy my own car and insure it?

Anyone have any recommended insurers? confused.com to be honest left me rather confused as many of the insurers when I checked didn't classify company insurance as a basis for no claims discount.

If you can get a letter from your employer than you shouldn't have too much of a problem getting a no-claims bonus on your new policy, just phone around first to see which companies will do this, and which won't.

What kind of car are you insuring, and what age are you?

Wot Tom said. It's important to remember that there are human beings you can talk to and as such, it's not always a case of computer says no. Get a few different insurers on the phone and tell them the situation, you should be able to get a pretty decent deal.

The key word here is phone. You'll always get a better deal via a real person than using an online form. Means its a slower process and more of a pain in the arse, but definitely worth it.

You shouldn't have too much trouble tracking down an insurer who will offer you some no claims, provided you can get a letter from your former company saying you didn't cost them anything while you were driving for them.

Just gonna have to jump on the phone and ring round really.

MOT's, Dentists, and Insurance ring rounds I hate in equal measure.

Cheers guys,

I'm 30 and buying something fairly small (1.1-1.6 litre) so even with zero no claims discount it'll probably be less than I had to pay prior to my company insurance on my old Mini 1.1! I'll call around or pop my head into a few of the insurance agents around and see who has the best deal. I can always swap later on if I pay via DD and find a better deal.
