Caps (not the type you stick on your head!)

Ok, been playing a while but have some questions about skill and stat caps:

1. Can a skill (e.g. slash) be capped. So, for example, my armsman is level 27 with 27 slash skill, and accumulates enough items to provide him with +20 slash (bear with me). Is his effective slash skill 47 now or is it capped somewhere? i.e. can items only provide so much of a bonus?

2. Can a attribute (e.g. str) be capped.

1. The skill cap is (level/10)+1. 11 at level 50.

2. Attributes are capped at level*1.5. 75 at level 50.

Also, resist bonuses from items are capped at (level/2)+1 (26 at 50). Same with +power I think.

also, there is an xp cap for every level, eg. a maximum amount of xp you can earn for every kill.

there are caps on most things.

say i got 50+11 shield at level 50 then i buy mastery of blocking 2 (which is about 12 more block levels) will that still be effective or will it only be 50+11 still?

You mean level/5+1 for skills... :) RR bonuses are added on top of this (so having 50+20 in a skill is possible).
Also +hp is capped at level*4, buffs cap at 1*level for baseline and 1.5*level for spec.

All RAs add to skills outside of caps. So augmented stats, masteries etc. can take you above the normal caps. So in short, yes mastery of blocking will give you more chance to block even if you have 50+11 shield.

So is it /5+1 or /10+1?

Let me make sure I got this right:):

I am level 10 and I have 100 hp (Im a wimp I know:)). With buffs I can have 140 hp(?). Now, pretent Im a scout so my primary attribute is Dex (and its at 50). Are you saying that my dex can be buffed to 75 or that my longbow skill could be buffed (with items) to 1.5x its trained level?

OK, I'll run through this in full.
Item caps (as in + from items you are wearing)
Skills (such as longbow, slash etc) - level / 5 +1. At level 10 that's 3. Realm rank bonuses are additional to these.
Stats (such as str, con, etc.) - level * 1.5, at level 10 that's 15.
Hitpoints (some items have +hits) - level * 4, this is additional to extra hp from boosting your con, at level 10 that's 40.
Power - level / 2 + 1, at level 10 this is 6.
Resists - level / 2 + 1, at level 10 this is 6.

Buff caps (from baseline buffs), these are additional to item bonuses
stats - level, at level 10 this is 10 (duh)

Buff caps (from specline buffs), these are additional to items and baseline buffs
stats - level * 1.5, at level 10 this is 15.
resists - level / 2 + 1, at level 10 this is 6.

On top of all this are your realm ability augmentations. These are additional to all the above bonuses.

I am level 10 and I have 100 hp (Im a wimp I know). With buffs I can have 140 hp(?). Now, pretent Im a scout so my primary attribute is Dex (and its at 50). Are you saying that my dex can be buffed to 75 or that my longbow skill could be buffed (with items) to 1.5x its trained level?
You can have 40 hp of item bonuses, plus bonus con (max 15) from items to give more hp, plus bonus con from buffs (max 25) for more hp again. You can probably get to about 180-200 hp (not sure how many hp you get from con as a level 10 scout).
Longbow skill can be boosted by items by a maximum of 3 points. Your dex can be buffed to 75 if you have 2 dex buffs.

Hope that clears it up. :)

Danyan = UBER.

Thanks for the example - maths was never a strong subject for me!:)

Final question : if I buff up more than a cap allows, does it still show up on my stats or does the capped amount show? ie. is the display bugged?

The display shows how much you actually have, i.e. the capped amount, not how much you would have if the buff was working fully. So no, the display is not bugged. An easy way to tell if you are capped on items is to remove an item and see how much a stat decreases by, if it's less than the bonus granted by the item you are capped. E.g. I have 182 int on my ment, if I remove a +12 int item it will decrease by about 8 showing I am 4 over cap.
