Winamp no let me stream music from mp3.com no more :(

Does anyone else get this problem, out of interest? That'd rule out a problem with the site's servers if not.
Strangely it all happened when I foolishly installed realplayer and accidentally set it to be associated with all mp3 & m3u files. I could stream through RP, but the sound quality was just shit compared with winamp, so I uninstalled the thing. The tracks now attempt to open with winamp, but nothing plays.

Not only am I going mad not being able to listen to all that music without downloading it first, I'm also getting shitloads of email requests by amateur trance artists for their songs to be added to my station (see sig), and I can't reply to them seeing as most of the times I can't hear the tracks on their pages :(

'tis annoying.

I'm starting to become of the opinion that winamp sounds shite now.

/me looks for another mp3 player...

And streaming from mp3.com works fine, did it last night as it happens.

Heh, it gives the best quality sound I've ever heard on this machine. Do tell if you find a better one.

Uh, why not just change the mp3 decoder?

is it possible

to use EAC as the mp3 decoder? and how would one do such a thing?

cos i use that with LAME [LAME is not an MP3 encoder <sic, fucking GNU naming convention>]

werd to skyler incidentally for that awesome cd ripping combo

Uh, EAC is a WAV ripper, not an mp3 decoder, LAME (Lame Ain't an MP3 Encoder, which i think you were trying to say) is just a encoder, ie it doesn't work the other way. However, you can get a decoder semi based upon the LAME engine oooh, it sounds good daddy and use that to replace winamps default decoder, the difference is really noticiable at higher volumes.

OR

look up ain't in the dictionary sonny.

whassit say? oh yes... ain't == is not.

and b) EAC = Enhanced Audio Codec.

codec meaning?

CODEC Compression/Decompression Module (usually applied to audio data)

src = dictionary.com

it's not a fucking wav ripper. LAME is a wav ripper. and other things.

EAC = an enhanced MP3 codec, for converting shit to and from MP3's.

i fucking rah you.

Lame is an acronym for LAME AIN'T an MP3 ENCODER that is it's name, you cannot change it because the word isn't in the dictionary, it is called that. Whilst we are on Lame, it is purely an mp3 encoder, try reading up about it here Don't know what the software you use actually is, why not try reading about it?

EAC = Exact Audio Copy, it is not a codec, it is just a WAV reader with jitter correction, hence you needing to use an external encoder, in your case Lame.

Congratulations on trying to educate a sound engineer on digital audio, do carry on.

then;

there's two EAC's, because i have mine in a zipfile, that has documentation with "enhanced audio codec" written all over it.

well pld :p

If you are using 'Enhanced Audio Codec' why are you using Lame? I'd be interested in checking out your version of EAC, as Lame is acknowledged pretty much universally to be the best mp3 encoder, why not up it somewhere and post a link.

I assure you, everyone else in the thread you refered to above is using Exact Audio Copy, the reason being that it doesn't just rip once giving you possiblity of WAVs filled with errors, it will rerip until it obtains a number of matched result, if you are really interested in the theory behind this, I can give you the rationale behind jitter and red book audio.

*me waves a stripy "time out" flag...*

*marches into middle of the battlefield between scooba and wolfeeh*

*puts down a pair of pink vinyl handbags filled with quickset concrete*

*slaps a pair of sennheiser hd580's round wolfeeh and scoobs heads*

*waves green flag and dashes off the battlefield shouting "FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"*

*hides in a nearby bunker*

Yes, I should have added that to my post

Well, that might help improve the sound quality by an un-noticeable fraction but it's still pretty useless if I can only play stuff from my HD :/
Thx anyway...

Tried doing a reinstall of winamp, if you let it grab it's settings back it may correct itself?

If that'd worked when I tried it last night then I wouldn't have posted this thread. So fucking typical it only works when someone suggests it :/
