Cant play CS on network

Lo all, ive got my com networked to an ME computer mine is XP Pro. I can transfer files and stuff and look at shared folders but i cant play CS with the other computer . Its just 2 coms connected using a crossover cable. I want to play CS tho how?? Ty v much

Do you mean it wont work, or you dont know how to set it up?

If your not sure how to set the LAN game off, its easy.

On your better machine,
start CS,
go into play CS, play on LAN, create.

Do you mean it wont work, or you dont know how to set it up?

If your not sure how to set the LAN game off, its easy.

On your better machine,
start CS,
>go into play CS,
>play on LAN,
>create.

Specify how many players you want to play, the map you want and any other bits. Then click create.

The other machine needs to go the same way, but when it gets to Play on LAN, just join the game thats been created by the other machine.

I reserver the right to be wroong with this, cos Im at work and going on memory, so some steps may be a bit fuddled.

lmao yeh i know how to set it up, i tried creating with both machines. Chose evertyhing watever, wen the better machine is the server the other com can see it wen i click refresh and w8 10 seconds but it cant get a ping and cant connect to it. Wen the other com hosts it cant even see it. Quite annoying. Also wen i play on the internet i cant refresh all the servers at once, i hav to right click the server and refresh it individually. Also wen i select play on the internet it trys to get info from sum Valve master server but takes ages and doesnt succeed to i just press cancel everytime

Could you possibly have some firewall software or other which is cocking things up?

I have zonealarm on both computers, but they r deactivated for the network. Firewall is only on for the internet. Its definately a cross over cable. I did it myself, i wuldnt be able to transfer files to the other computer if it wasnt a crossover cable.

You sure both your copies of CS are the same version?

its aight, turns out one of my cs versions was just buggered. Went onto a server where the admins fucked my cs up. Theres a recent article in the Half life forum whcih shows wat they reckon happened, quite interesting realy. All sorted now
