having ue probs, lol. PLEASE HELP!

Hey. Whenever I double click on tribes2.exe it waits a sec then it
gives me an unhandled expection c000001d.
Then it goes ahead and gives me an illegal operation box.
I've checked the files to be valid with the t2firstaid program.
All of my files are updated. I deleted the *.dso files and upgraded tribes2 to version 23115. I still get the error. I messed with the hardware acceleration and the sample rate conversion as suggested. Still no difference. I reinstalled and tried it all again, still no difference. I even updated all of my drivers. I know there's people here that have had similair problems with the game and have fixed them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think i had the same problem. It was caused by my network settings. Try removing the TCP/IP network components and running the game again. Once its working and them back again.

har har. I know my specs suck but it should still work.
I'm buying a new computer next week. Hopefully it will work on the way better computer. Its gonna be 700-866 mhz P3. And will have a voodoo3 or higher card and a soundblaster live card.
Any compatibility issues with tribes2 and any of these things?

If you hav'nt got the Voodoo yet DON'T get it. T2 runs best with Open GL cards so go for a GF2 MX or higher.

Also SB live has a few probs but thats justa matter of playing with the settings in t2

uhh, no I havn't got it yet, Thanks a lot for the warning.
How much do GF2 MX's run for? heh, could I get the full name cuz I dont really know what GF2 MX means except for that it's a graphics card. Thanks a lot.

He speaks of the GeForce 2 MX cards and higher. You REALLY should get that instead of Voodoo :) And seriously, I wouldnt even bother with those specs :( it would be so horrid that you would through your computer out your window.

Don't bother getting a new card for this game. Im sure it's a good investment for other games, but tribes runs like papa on any gfx board. Shite coding is the order of the day. A gfx board will not help you, i was running the game on a gts 64mb, iv'e now upgraded to a geforce 3, and it runs no different;) Iv'e also ran the game on several different os's with different chipsets and sound cards, all with the same results. On how you view tribes 2 is what your prepared to put up with, most people here, people like custy, mantis ect will swear by the game no matter what, but in truth there are many who can't stand the constant crap the game throws at them, and like i say many blinded souls who can.

Yeah, well this new comp is gonna be pretty sweet. I'm building my own system so...i'm not exactly buying a new card, just buying one. The ati rage is the families comp, (can't wait till i'm outta here), so I can't use it. Thanks a lot peeps. I'm glad I posted here.

Just to elaborate on the GF2 MX cards...

Get a GeForce2 MX400 if you're going to go for one of these cards. They combine half-way decent framerates with an economical price.
eg. Aria Technologes in Manchester have an
NVIDIA GEFORCE 2 MX-400 64MB AGP for £75.00 ex.vat, £88.13 inc.vat (I don't work for them btw!)

Also, Halo since you've already bought the game I wouldn't pay TOO much attention to what Kurt_Angle says. Yes the game is bad for some, but with a bit of perseverence you can get it to fly along. For example, my Duron 800 + GF2MX gets me about 50 fps most of the time outside... more than smooth enough.

Kurt, I have to ask... if you're so against T2 and Dynamix, why do you still come to this section of the forums? :)

Since you ask, iv'e given this game every chance but it's falling short of just that every time they patch it. How many games do you know take 3 seperate attempts to install the game, then a further 3 attempts to get the thing to run when you have installed?. Granted some people will tell you they have no problems with it, i on the other hand must be the only person who does  Question on why i make an issue of it, well i did pay my money, and this is a forum dedicated to the game. It's not so much a question of me against dynamix or the publisher, but the very fact iv'e actually bought the game, and i don't belive it should have been made availible to buy in such an infinshed state. The whole point of dev time is to sort all the shit out, not use us as alpha/beta testers after paying 30 quid for the privilage of owning what they term as a retail game. They were well aware of this as they didn't even bother to drop back to testing after the first beta test got scraped because the game had so many issues. In short it's a poor situation and ill make my point, if you guys want to be blinded by your love of the game, then so be it. But iv'e got right to make my point/s like everybody else.

Since your all replying in here

I cant seem to get tribes 2 to work

System Info
Windows ME
256 pc133
Savage 4 (creative Labs) 64megs
AMD 850 T-Bird
Sound Blaster Live

I have the latest drivers from this site (http://www.savagenews.com the leaked ones) but the into movie is all hashie and I cant see any of the menus. What should I do. Tribes tech has no idea and Creative labs wont help me.

I just updated T2 to the latest version and now the starting video doesnt play (sound does) the window just opends and closes over and over and over while playing the sound then nothing else happends.

I remember this bug, it has something to do with movie codecs or something (?) I didnt have this problem myself so its a bit hazy and perhaps not correct :p

Do you have DirectX 8a ?

If that dont work try emailing support, I hear they reply pretty quick. Also bug forum at TribalWar.com is quite good.

Try lowering the detail, thats what it is there for. On max detail it is way above anything i have seen from any game released at the moment. They want to give it some life in the gfx department when we all have Athlon4 1.8ghz and GF3ultras. There are even higher quality models that they havnt enabled yet. People should stop flameing a game because it doesnt run well at a high gfx setting and turn it so it fits their specs, then put it up when you do have a better system. It should be encouraged tbh, if i had the choice between 1) great gfx for a long time but i cant have the smug grin of sticking those settings on max when i get the game, or 2) have the smug grin but gfx that are outdated in a year, i would go for the option 1 anyday.

Nuff said

I've found it buggy at best if I'm honest. But nothing that would stop me playing (bar the servers being down occasionally ;)

I've a 1Ghz athlon, 512Meg PC-133 (only originally ran it on 160 Meg of PC-100), GeFarce1 DDR - and I run it at a min of about 50 FPS (unless its really heavy with major peeps, vehicles AND explosions - then I can see it start to chug).

/me likes it - all I have to get used to now is how they've made the discs a Little bit too powerful and fucked most of the maps with too much fog and no trees :(

Kurt you will notice a diference when you jump from a celeron500 + GF2MX to a 1ghz athlon with GF2 GTS , its a hell of a lot better and best of all there are no problems with the game, except for the cut off time by freeserve :p

Yeah but iv'e got a powerfull computer and gfx card, and iv'e ran the game at both it's lower settings, and higher settings. Lol at celeron, i had one of them 3 years ago:) My 2nd computer is a 1ghz tbird with a gts 64mb:) and it don't go so great, and it don't go so great on my 1.3ghz geforce 3 combo either:( I don't understand it realy, iv'e got much better graphical games than tribes and they run so much better:)

I realy can't understand where u lot get all this 50-70 fps from, when i jump online i can do no better than about 25 when standing alone, and soon as i start fighting somebody it drops to like 10-5 fps:(

Dunno, i never drop below 15 on a celleron 400 Gf2MX. And i have my gfx sliders on about 10% then the texture sliders on 50%.
