Is vatken = warrior? Or viking? Isen = ice? Herra = hero??

I'm not Scandinavian, but Vakten is warden or sentry. Herra is Lord I'm pretty sure.

Skiltvakten is a sentry (shield warden literally)
Isen = Ice
Flammen = Flames/Fire
Eldur = probably something along the lines of old, so I think senior guard or something would be a fit translation.
Stormur = Storm

Skiltvakten = "Skilt" means a "sign", can mean a Shield. Vakt means guard, vakten means The guard, sounds like the old Norwegian language, vikings etc.

Isen Vakten = Is means Ice, -en is another ending they put at the end of words. Guardian of the Ice or something is probably what they wanted it to be.

Flammen Vakten = Flamme means Flame, Guardian of the Flame.

Eldur Vakten = Eldur sounds like a version of flame, but it's "Ild", which means Fire. (Not 100% on this one even though it most likely means the same as "flamme".)

Stormur Vakten = Storm is Storm Guardian of the Storm.

Isen Herra = Isen means the same, Herra means Lord or master. Herre means Lord (in connection with God etc.) Or if you can master something. Lord of the Ice.

Flammen Herra = And again, Lord/Master of the Flame.

Personally, being from Sweden, I too think that sounds Icelandic (or how you spell it).

Not sure, but I think Icelandic is like a mix of old swedish, danish and norweigan or something?

Yeah, in that time there were mostly one language and dialects of that language in scandinavia. The language they speak in Iceland is the one most similar to the language spoken then.

Though I think it's not as simple as "<type> Guard". If you want it correct it's "Guard of the <type>".

Einherjar = Ein means one, herjer is a norwegian word today, and means someone is uhm, ravaging/owning you ("Han herjer" is norwegian for "He is kicking ass(erhm, almost anyway )" hm, kind of difficult to translate to one word though.. (To ravage a country = Å herje et land) <- That's Norwegian.
What this ends up with is a single person who is basically ravaging anyone, or is capable of doing so. (Einherjar = Enerådende <-- If you know Norwegian or a langage with a similar word) Hm, Conqueror, hm hm. One man/woman able to take on anyone, and can never be stopped. Sounds like a semi-God.

worth noting tho, i'm pretty sure elding vakten translates into 'elder/ancient/old guard' and not 'fire guard'. this is because in old norse the words usually had endings other than those used today (that is if the words even exists).

Einherjar could also be the old name for the bringer of the dead, in denmark I believe their name is Einheirninger (or somewhat like that) these are the people that rode out of Valhal and into Midgård after each great battle, to pick up the deads and bring them to the feasting tables of Odin in Valhal (just a theory )

I think the Einherjar are some sort of elite-warriors of Odin. Roughly said. This made me remember Valkyrie Profile for the Playstation - anybody played that? Supreme RPG in Viking setting where you play a Valkyrie and collect the souls of the dead to fight as warriors (Einherjar) in the war of Gods vs. Giants. Famous speech-sample that opens every battle: "To my side, my noble Einherjar!"... <thinks about dusting off the good old PSX>

i've talked to a friend of mine whose norse mythology isn't as rusty as mine and he clarified abit about einherjar. whenever a viking died fighting in battle there was a chance he would get recognition from the very gods themselves. if the gods approved of it that viking would be made an einherjar (there was something about frey recieving half of all the vikings for some weird purpose). basically all the einherjars are always together battling and killing eachother in bloody battles every day. then, in the end of the day they would all be brought back to life and were best buddies once again. the einherjars will continue to do this until ragnarok when they are called to fight by the side of the gods.

so basically they are super-elite warriors that are waiting for ragnarok (armageddon) when they will fight with the gods.

also in norwegian one could look at einherjar as; ein(1, one) and herjar (a wrecker/ravager). so maybe the ravager or maybe the one or something like that.. ^^
