This thread is mainly for people who have a Hero or have played one.

I am really interested in this class for my next char, wether it be on PvP, hib/excal or hib/pryd I don't know yet, but I am definately interested in the char.

I am SO much in doubt which way to go tho, I know many say the SpearO is a very evil one, but there's also the more defensive 1h + shield or ofcourse the LW. Not to mention you could go a middle road taking more skills to around 39.

But what type do people play, and what do you like and dislike about your char?

Welcome to the world of the moose :D

My hero is blades and shield and is great to play PvE. Personally I really enjoy being the defensive hero. It basically comes down to how you want to play.

Advantages. You will be loved in groups. Faster weapon speed than CS/LW, therefore faster taunting. Guard ability to help block for others - guard the puller/other main tank and you will block some of the attacks against them. 2 tanks with guard on each other and a healer/buffer are quite a formidable group. You are the rock for mobs to beat against. You don't hurt them much, but you take the damage whilst the nukers finish it off.

Disadvantages. Low damage output. Slow if you solo a lot. You are not uber/roxxor (insert other lame dewd speak here).

Personally I think this is the best spec. for PvE

Large Weapon / Celtic Spear. High damage output. Less defence. Slow attack speed, if you miss you notice it. CS does the highest damage (I think the highest in the game i.e. of all realms). Better for RvR - get the most damage in, in the quickest time. You are uber/roxxor etc :rolleyes:

I found it a bit difficult in the teens. You don't have a lot of money at that stage so it is difficult to keep your armour and weapons at circa yellow con. I had a bit of trouble killing things at this stage. However now I find soloing yellows and low oranges no problem (no comments from enchanters etc who can solo oranges/reds please :))

Personally I am going defensive hero, but am also now speccing into spear, giving the benefits of both worlds. My 'personal' (current!) template for 50 is
34 Blades
42 Shield
30 Parry
44 Spear
Defensive heros aren't great in RvR at the moment, but blocking/parrying is meant to be improved a lot in upcoming patches, so I think they will come into their own in the future. There are definitely some top RP earning defensive heros out there.

Most people recommend speccing blades to 6 (so you get the quick taunt), keeping 42 in shield (for the anytime 'slam' style which gives a long stun), 50 in spear or LW and the rest in parry.
Take advice from what everyone says, but choose what you think will be the best template for you to enjoy the game as you want.

Remember you have a one path respec at levels 20 and 40.

And of course regardless of which path you choose you will always have the moose :)

I Spear or Lw tank is only fully productive hiding behind a shield tank, I dont think that spreading points over a number of skills is in the Heros best intrest`. But it depends who/what you are playing with, rvr if im /stuck to a caster with gaurd/intercept on and slamming anything that gets to near, I own I block attacks/spells intercept anything that gets too close Is VERY effective! I am specced shield/blades Max with spare points in parry my realm skills are IP and the rest in mastery of blocking it takes a lot to get me down, and when Im aggresive rvr, not many can stand up to my slam!!

Heros are great what ever spec you decide you cant go really go wrong, have fun, hope ive helped

Well,

Played around with the hero on pvp now, tho only to level 16 I got a real good first impression of the class.

Will most likely go blade + board till 40, respec blades to CS and use CS the rest of the way unless a pure shield tank is very needed.

Heroes was mass fun to try out, reminds me alot of the warrior, but are more attractive to me because I never really explore hib beyong level 10-16. So I will most likely be starting a Hero up in the holidays, now I just need to pick prydwen or excal, since my skald is here on prydwen I fear some might call me a spy (Eventho I'd never do that...).

My Heroine is currently 48 going for 50 spec

LW 50
Shield 42
Blunts 9
Parry 38

I feel that this gives a fairly versitile char, like mojo said you can stick to a caster and guard,intercept with 42 shield i still block afair bit. Sometimes i start meleeing with my 1h and the guy thinks i hit like a wuss ( which is true btw :p ) but when hes down to 1/2 slam him and switch to lw they dont last very long after that :p

Blocking and parrying will be fixed in the coming patches so 1h/shield heros will get some loving that they need. But i couldnt wait that long so i respecced to lw.

many heroes respecced to LW from CS after the last patch now... as did a bunch of ex-s/s champions..

which is all fine and dandy, but then things like noob LW users getting 2 (!) legion LW drops that other LW users have been trying to get for months (and still do not have) is a bit unfair :(

I mean bfr, who's been LW all his life and has about 950k (or more at this stage -- he's turned off webdisplay now) rps still hasn't been able to get one, and not from lack of attendance at legion raids :(

Champions with weapon+shield aren't as good in my opinion,i would rather go for very high damage output than over the top uncalled for defence which they don't really need as the same goes for a hero.

Raggy...there's really two options for a tank class...

Either (a) go LW Champion or Spearo.
or (b) weapon/shield Hero.

Recently I've seen a LOT of spearos. And they tend to drain healers FAST in PvE. You know me, and I only ever got 2-H Axe in PvE (in a group) when there's decent bubble or the killing blow. Tanks are NOT damage dealers in PvE...we say that over and over and over, but some people just don't get it. A mage can nuke for 3 times as much as a tank hits in one go. If you go spearo, at least do shield weapon first. Me as a caster, I'd feel a lot safer with a sword/shield tank than a 2-H tank who, if he misses, can lead to my death.

Dunno...I'll stick by my saying that most tanks I see in PvE are dumb shits. :flame: as they fail to taunt, and fail to handle the adds.

I resent that remark!!! Grrrr... Maybe u just havent played with good tanks ** Ahem **

One thing i noticed that if you spec LW/CS 42 shield 6-9 1h you damage output is very low for the 1h and even taunting the mobs still sometimes go for healers/nukers.. prob due to the large veriance in damage. On orange and low reds keeping aggro is no problem however on Purples (fins/bans) its abit harder for a less spec 1h to keep aggro where the LW/CS can keep aggro or steal aggro with 1-2 taunts. I've tested it and it works. In the case where you miss that might be a problem as it takes forever to swing that oversized toothpick and if u fumble .. omg.. good by healer/nuker. On the bright side with good buffs the swing time is cut down to about 3.5s so not too bad.

One thing LW/CS users should do is to use the fastest weapon they have when xping. I personally you the DF LW sword speed of 4.5 i think with buffs i dont take a year to swing it :p
