How do I calculate how long something will take to download?

I keep finding sites which allow you to input the files size, and the Line speed, but you cant actually put in the speed your downloading at, so i cant trust the results...

I really wouldn't know man, im sorry. Just check the ETA for a rough time.

Its just simple maths as Tris said, but you're going to struggle to get an exact time as download speeds vary during the download process.

I don't know man, but have you forwarded your ports and allowed access from the firewall?

Is it a torrent, and also are you using Vista?

Might be able to squeeze a few more kb/s out

Nah I only get more than this on newsgroups and even then its 500kbps.

300kbps, ok i round down to 250kbps means in 4 seconds i can download 1mb. so that's 4x8000 = 32000 seconds.

That = 10 hours so with my extra 50kbps i am probably looking at 8-9 hours...yet after 1 hour 30 minutes I am 25% through...so that indicates 6 hours...why does it have to be so fiddly

Don't forget to get your KB kb gb GB right too, there's a world of difference.

How many hours is that?

If you have 1000 Mb's in a Gb and 1000 kps in a mb

8gb is 8 x 1000 x 1000

divided by 300 then convert to minutes/hours

1024 bytes in a kb
1024 mb in a gb

bps = bits per second

kb = kilobyte, so 8 bits in 1 byte, thus 1kb = 8x1024

FileSize/CurrentNetSpeed = Time in minutes.
