Cable question.

OK, so weve just dragged our arses out of the VHS age, and bought a DVD player for the lounge.

As is probably pretty standard these days, I want to connect my Sky reciever, video and DVD player to my telly, but I also want to be able to watch either Sky, video or DVD upstairs in our bedroom.

ATM, I have Sky into the video, then from a splitter one co-ax into the back of the telly, and one upstairs into our room. The DVD player is connected direct by scart to the telly, but I cant get the picture upstairs.!!:(

Is there a splitter that will let me double up the output from the DVD.? I wondered about a double scart socket type thing, but the lead to upstairs would need to be hayoooge.

Any ideas?

AFAIK, there is no way of watching DVD's on a telly that isn't directly connected to the DVD player. However, I will ask at work tomorrow (I work in a shop with an vast electrical department) and see what I can do...

Or somebody else can tell me I'm wrong and give you the answer :)

Ive found a scart cable splitter, but like I said, the length of cable to get from lounge to love pit is ridiculous.

There's no alternative tbh. Running any non-quality cable (eg RF) and piggybacking off that totally ruins the point of a DVD player. Better off getting a "cheap" DVD player for upstairs, will probably work out cheaper than running a decent interconnect.

Btw, if you haven't done so already, throw out the crappy SCART cables you got and get decent ones. Better yet, get an S-Video and/or Digital interconnect.

always thought that running huge amounts of cable affected quality of the image, especially scart. not worth it wilier - just do like stu says, get a cheap and cheerful dvd player (not too cheerful!) for the upstairs telly.

this coming from me who still uses his PS2 to play DVD's :(

i use meh PS2 for playing DVD's. not too bad cept that it ALWAYs has subtitles on.

as the scart cable length increases, doesnt the picture quality decrease?

Or get a video sender for around £100 ( I hear theres a £50 one coming out soon) its wireless and you can still use the remote!

NEVER EVER EVER BUY THOSE FUCKING SHIT THINGS.

Lets just say they have a somewhat odd habit of completely fucking up tv's.

VHS will never take over betamax, it will fall flat on it face, the compact size of betamax will win over VHS anyday. And whats this D V D ?? you young people these days, when I was a kid we had puppet shows and travelling circus. And we lived in a box beside the road and ate gravel !!!

Kenny has some weird "Tranwo GigaAir20T" that transmits to TVs, so we can watch dvds in the bedroom, or films off the computer on the widescreen, and so on. We can watch different channels in the bedroom without having the tv wired up to an aerial properly too. It's quite handy. Of course, were I to explain anymore, I would hash it up completely, so I'll leave this to somebody else who has a clue :)

But theres no wires. You just point two opposing satellite type dishes at each other in different parts of the house. Kind of. Kennny!!!

SCART is better than S-video. Only marginally. But if your telly supports RGB input then SCART is the way to go.

I managed to pick up some video/remote senders from Maplin. They were 50 quid IIRC but it was a special offer.

I use them quite a bit to transmit both from my PC to either of the telly's in the house (DivX etc) and also use them from the DVD player in the lounge to the telly in the bedroom.

They do the job just fine. If I want to watch a DVD in crystal clear clarity and in surround sound, I'll sit in the lounge. If I just want something to watch as I doze off to sleep, then the video sender works fine.

It sounds too complex for me. My telly upstairs still only has a portable arial :)

I'm so lazy :(

Thats pretty much the size of it.:D

I actually just rang her, and she was very impressed with my positive attitude toward problem solving.:) But, very dissapointed that I hadnt discussed this major purchase with her.:(

Still, a lad at work has brought in a stack of pr0n DVD films for me to peruse when I get home. :D :D

you can't Willier

you can do the first 2 but not the DVD

unless you convert scart to rf and tune it in upstairs

(don't bother, you'll get a better picture off a £70 DVD player)

Or you could convert the scart signal to a Svhs signal and loose virtually no quality whatsoever.

Simply watch and memorise small segments of the film downstairs, then go upstairs and convey each segment to your wife. Repeat until the film has ended.

This way you both get to enjoy the film and you can add a personal interpretation which will entrance your wife and bond you together, forever.
