I have HH, it is £40/month with £15 free calls, which is actually £25/month, same as you quote for NTL.

HH _is_ ISDN2e, this allows you to "dual-bond" two 64k lines together for 128k, it's twice as fast but you pay for two phone calls, you can get close to 1Mb/min on a fast UK server. I've done this with my ISP and BW, but it doesn't give much increase on Q2 pings so I only use it for big downloads.

I have a "BT Speedway" Internal ISDN2e card which was < £40, last I heard was BT give them away free with HH. Its actually a rebadged AVM "Fritz!" Card, they are a German company and their support/drivers are excellent, I have had no hardware or driver problems with it at all.

I have had NO problems with HH since I got it last October, I would recommend it, but basically I had no choice as there are no Cable companies in my area, so I can't really compare it.

You may find that NTL insist you use them as an ISP if you want their ISDN, in the same way of Cable companies, check this out, BT HH is ISP-independent.

If you want to go HH check with Solwise http://www.solwise.com. They can sign you up and give you a £35 rebate which you can use to buy an TA (IMHO the best choice is an Asustech internal which cost about £40 and is only available from Solwise [No I don't work for them

])

On the other hand, no matter who you sign up with you're likely to have to sign a contract guaranteeing that you'll have the service for at least 12 months.

With ASDL & Cable Modems (possibly) just around the corner and BT certainly not saying whether they'll let HH users change, do you want to make the decision now without seeing how things pan out ?

Also have a look at this http://www.theregister.co.uk/990716-000019.html it may not be true, but if it is...

I am another on the lookout for a low ping. Im going LPB, through ISDN. Righty. Its either HH, which is slower, at 40 quid a month plus some amount of free calls (pah), or its the NTL cable ISDN, which i have been told is for business use only. Even so, i could probably get around this (Yes mr NTL sir, i am a proffesional webmaster (!) and need the bandwidth), and costs 25 a month including normal line rental, plus is real ISDN2e (so is quicker than HH) -
1. I need to be confident im doing right in getting ISDN
2. Are the above figures correct
3. I hate my modem and why spend 60-70 quid on another modem (pace internal) when i can get my ISDN card (41 quid) and connection for the same price

Great, cheers paul, thats certainly something to think about. It seems that my area wont be getting cable till 2001, so isdn of some form would certainly seem a viable option still. As far as that page news paul, all very well and good but with the £3000+ i have spent on my PC, i dont really want another
