C++ book recommendations.

I need to learn C++, so I'm looking for a good book to get me started.

I've programmed before, so I know the relevant stuff, I want a book that has good examples of programming applications in Windows ( NOT CONSOLE APPS ), and is fairly easy to follow.

Any Suggestions?

I was going to recommend the schildt book( it should be on ed 3or 4) but I don't think its got too many visual stuff in it! :( I like it though...

Schildt's C / C++ books are probably the best reference you can get - but not fantastic for the beginner. I started Win32 C++ programming from this book. Which was pretty good. Starts off with C / C++ basics then delves into the deeper parts of Win32 development.

But if I were you i'd set aside an afternoon and camp out in your local bookstore and have a look through some of the available titles until you find one you think you can work from easily.

I totally back gremlin's recommendation... while i've never read THAT particular book... i have in my possession LOTS of wrox press books, including another one by that ivor horton dude - and they are very fine :)

you might also want to check out "the c++ programming language" by bjarne something or other - the guy that invented the language.
