Personally I want my kids to have an IQ greater than 12 so I can safely say that this is a good thing. I know there is a more important and immediate issue with regards to closing MSN chat down. In my mind though, any reason is a good one for getting rid of this nonsense.

Think about it - they aren't shutting the US servers down far from it. Credit card subscriptions to the chatrooms...tsk tsk.

Its a PR stunt. They can say "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" and watch the credit card subs roll in.

I think the general public are under the impression that 1 in 2 humans on this planet are paedophiles, the paranoia is becoming ridiculous.

MSN has gone more and more subscriber only for years, the MSN Calendar went subscriber only the MSN Mobile which was free up to last week has gone subscriber, now the chat has as well.

Now all the parents are patting MSN on the back thinking they did good. The end result is Kids carry on chatting, MS make more money and the parents get that warm fuzzy feeling they get when they throw money at a problem rather than educating their children :/

They said they cant keep the chatrooms safe, thats the whole reason they are closing them down. I agree with PR.. the danger is by no means negligable, but I doubt its an epidemic. Registration is a good idea imo... Closing them down is akin to curing a headache by cutting off the head. Anyway, the twisted inderviduals who perpitrate such acts will find a way... regretably theres not much that can be done till they do either .

As for keeping your online friends online and real life friends in real life, sage advice... However, the kids these sick fucks go after dont know this, or they are manipulated till they forget it, as such is a moot point.
