Nice to know that Sony can arbitrarily remove features of existing consoles on a whim...

That hacker that done the iPhone is saying if you don't update your ps3 he'll have a workaround for when you do soon.

What was the benefit of running linux on the ps3 btw? I never tried myself.

No surprise really. What Sony assures us one minute they'll go back on the next. They've been treating customers like idiots for years.

Luckily for me I don't give a shit on this one :)

Same, I will only be pissed off when it stops playing blue rays :)

Another Sony fail though, worrying times for them.

Option 1 - Close the loophole the iphone hacker was using which even though very unlikely could eventually lead to people being able to run pirate PS3 games, piss off a very small percentage of the user base who actually use the feature.
Option 2 - Leave things as they are and just hope for the best.

As for not updating your firmware and waiting for a workaround that is an option but only if you bought your PS3 purely for watching blu-rays or running Linux as newer PS3 games will eventually require the newer firmware.

I don't think it was purely about the hack. Remember, they already removed it from the Slim, basically saying they didn't want to continue supporting the feature. I think it's a case that almost nobody uses it, so Sony don't want to spend any resources keeping it up-to-date.

I can completely understand being upset about it if you are one of the few who use it =/
