Even if one is relatively wealthy, the amount of money a month most broadband services require is a lot by most people's standards. How much is the 2Mb service?

Go to Uni instead, and share a 100MBit connection :D

Kind Regards

I don't like sharing :p

BTW the test will see no increase, how much it is after I'm not too sure :)

Oh well, sounds cool :D Is capped like ntl, do you know?

BTW - 360Kbs on a good day is fine for 'free' :D And a sub-10 ping on most UK servers. And free software. And a WLAN network so we can work outside on our PDAs and notebooks. And free notebook hire. Ooo, and an education too :D teeheehee, education rocks :)

Kind Regards

I thought I would check the site this morning and realised the site was finally up....however it seems they filled all the places already, it means some said fucks have done nothing but check that website all day :m00:

It was up last night, you just had to keep refreshing the page. I still couldn't get signed up though because it constantly kept timing out between pages and i finally ran out of patience.

London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE :)). Like I say, they take their IT very seriously, which means we get to share some of the best educational IT resources in the country (e.g. lowest computers to students ratio in the UK; free 802.11b network on site and free hire of the necessary hardware for our notebooks (plus free notebook hire if you need it); free software; free high-speed Internet access in Hall bedrooms (although this varies depending on use); free 24 hour global IT support; and lots more besides :)).

Anyway, in short, it's cool :D I believe we also have our very own Sun Microsystems Enterprise server for intensive research-based calculations and other 'supercomputing'.

Kind Regards

I wish BY all the best with this trial seeing as I had to give up my cable and get DSL due to the fact my local area was already way oversubscribed and I was getting very poor performance.

The local techies said it had gotten much worse since they launched the 1MB service and they had very little money to upgrade anything.

I dont hold out much hope of their network not crumbling... At least in the Bristol area anyrate. I cant speak for what its like in the rest of the country.

Good point :p However, those fees and the insane London rent aren't directly for those free services; i.e. I'd be paying the same tuition fees to study my degree wherever I went; and I'd be paying rent where ever I went (we don't have to pay for the broadband services via a specific contribution) :) It's daft, I know, but shelling out £xx per month just for a broadband service is psychologically more noticable (for me) than shelling out for things you'd need anyway :D

I see where you're coming from, as I'm off to uni next year I did make a point of checking out the services... they all looked pretty similar to me though!

As for this 2mb line hmmm, I have a few mate's who'd be tempted if it wasn't for the fact cable stops about 3 miles short of our area and we're all just only the borderline to get DSL. It's sad knowing two people who must have some kind of compulsive download disorder or something, that is, they're late when you go to pick them up because "they had to set up their downloads for the night!" They generally just download any old shite and aren't happy unless their pipe's constantly maxed out, tards! :p I can't really see that much of an advantage to 2mb, well at least not enough to be worth me forking out the extra dosh, for web browsing and gaming etc 512k is easily enough, as for large downloads I'm quite happy to wait an extra few hours for the file to download tbh.
