Is the BWT2L officially over now?
I have heard nothing about this league for over a month and the last I heard was that Barrysworld were having server probs.
I am disappointed at the lack of information posted here about it and the general disinterest shown by Barrysworld. I would have posted in the Tribes 2 League forum but that is even deader than this one.

This was the problem with T1 - with such a long time between competetive leagues people just lost interest and played something else.

Shame really. /me thinks that T2 is mostly dead. Unless someone can give me a lot of evidence otherwise....

It's not the time between competative leagues that's the problem right now. It's that the league seems to have been stopped mid season with no official announcement and that no-one seems to care.
I agree that T2 is declining now. The Ladder is getting old and some people have issues with it. Clans seem to be leaving the T2 scene every week. T2 will never die as it will always have a hardcore following but the community is shrinking.
I liked the idea of a league and for a short time it was working well. If servers are such a big problem then why not give us a list of approved servers and let us get on with it?
As for a patch anytime this year.....I am not going to hold my breath waiting for it.....

If servers are a problem for the Barrysworld league then theres one of two problems:

Either

1) Barrysworld is going titsup (Hmmmm... don't think so!)

or

2) Whoever's organising it sucks!! How can there be a problem with server availability?


If people are complaining about servers - tough sh1t - it's the same for everyone (I remember all the bitching in T1 about servers - especially in Ladder matches - it SUCKED).


It's such an easy thing to overcome.

Have a list of approved servers for the BW leagues.

For ladder matches just have two servers in each country - and the home and away matches MUST be played on one of those servers. Simple.

No deviation to the rules!

I might be wrong here, but I think its a problem of the league servers not having the custom maps on them that we need to finish the season. Also the BW server admin crew don`t give a fuck enough to fix it.

Similar situation to the months that went by with the anal mapcycle. BW staff do others things now like run servers for BTOpenworld. They pay money for servers, we don`t. Guess who gets the attention?

I think we can now safely say that the BWT2L is dead.
Maybe one day someone at barrysworld might get enough enthusiasm to run another league for half a season.
Still would be nice to be told officially that they don't give a rats ass.

It's always the same. Ever since BW was taken over by EB the care and attention that was lavished on the community has been in steady decline.

BW finally got round to spending the 5mins it prolly took to fix the league servers. I will be announcing a new starting date for the league ASAP

The announcement about server trouble on the webby coincided with the start of our network problems so i put the issues down to that and as i was not contacted by Hive about any further problems i simply assumed he was waiting for things to blow over there. I wasn't told that they needed maps added to them until i went chasing Hive to find out why there had been no further updates about the league, once he explained what was needed the maps were added to them within a matter of days.

If Hive contacted someone else @ BW then i'm not sure why they didn't act on it or forward the details to me, i've had no problems with league stuff being sorted out like maps or config changes in any of the leagues we run as long as the person running the league actually contacts me when there is something they need done. Yes it is true we have a contract with GD but we took on an extra member of staff to help with this so it doesn't impact that much / at all on the BW side of things.

Now everything is back to normal i will be expecting to see the BWT2L getting back going again, the league currently has 4 dedicated servers running every day of the week and unless there is some movement on it they will be removed and the league shut down.

Bigfoot, Wils is the BW liason, not me, & it was him that was sending emails to one of the peeps running BW (cant remember who sorry) to get the servers updated with the maps needed.

I merely run the league. This weekend i will be talking to each clan leader individually to find out if they still want to take part, as it has been a long time dormant. Considering almost half the clans have quit/folded already, the responce needs to be positive or it wouldnt be worth while.

Once i find whether it is or not, i will contact you personally Bigfoot, as well as the clans obviously

There is also the issue of the ETL being cranked up, which I`m sure Suds would accelerate if he got wind of the BWT2L starting up again.

I think it was just communication between Hive and BW that was the problem. That and the fact that the BW liason i think doesnt play T2 anymore.

Hive just got told recently that the servers were being taken for other games until the league was shown to be used. Dont think hive fancied running a league that HAS to take place all in one day.

Basically the main days left for the servers were sunday and monday, there main ladder days imo and so it just wasn't a viable option, i think hive thought the same.

I mailed Hive saying i needed to take the servers for Tues, Weds and Thurs to support the CS League as it needs more servers, it is an active league and one which is very popular. This leaves 2 very much usable nights for the league - Sun & Mon - which should be more than enough considering the number of clans in the competition. If other leagues run on those nights then that is obviously an issue that we need to look at but Hive should have said something rather than just going idle (as appears to be the case).

BW's servers are only good for UK based players. We started the league regardless. During the 4 weeks of competition, almost half the clans quit, primary reason: pings/warping.

Myself and the admin team behind me had the enthusiasm to keep it going, as we enjoy the league format.

Then there was the fiasco of realising BW had never put on the custom maps we had on roster. Yes, Wils the BW liason, isnt the most active of people, but he did send emails to one of the BW head honchos regarding maps needed. Nothing came of it.

Now having a league dormant for about 2 months does rock the morale of the admins & competing clans a bit i can tell you. One day Bigfoot PMed me, asking about wtf the prob was, i explained, & in a few days he'd fixed it. Great.

Now once realising the league could resume, we couldnt do it straight away. For a start i had to personally talk to every clan leader & find out if they still wanted to compete, work out who is left & THEN work out a future date where the league can start.

During this time i received an email that the league servers were being removed except for Sundays & Mondays, for other games that BW caters for. Soon as i read this i thought "oh fuck it" tbh.

There is no way i can get clans to switch to a sunday when that day is used by theladder, which is far superior for european based clans.

End of the day. Ive stopped believing in the BWT2L, the website is a joke, server maintanence time (until Bigfoot kindly stepped in) is a joke, but most importantly, the servers arent good enough for europeans.

The towel has been thrown in.

PS - I would like to thank the Admins as well the 'Match Admins' we had who put in considerable effort.

With regards to the website i did sort this out but you wanted to keep things going as you had started, as you know the reason it was in a mess in the first place was due to the actions of a previous head admin.
