BW Specialties Server?

Hi just a thought.

BW has a lot of quiet / often unused ffa and tdm servers. Would it be possible to perhaps convert one of the least used to a specialties server?

Specialties, disintegration, assimilation and in2agib r really popular now and as it's proved with NGUK, these servers (especially Specialties) would probably fill up more than the ffa / tdm ones.

There are a lot of specialties addicts out there (me included) and I think it might be a big winner for BW.

Only an idea.

Hi Napalm,

you have a point here but not everybody has the expansion pack (for specialties) and I am not sure it would be a good thing to exclude all those new players of the BW community just because they can't play FFA (which is what peple usually play when they start playing online).

For the other mods... well I started online gaming whith EF on a chilly december while working in LA... I didn't know anything about mods and all so same remarq as above...

PS : When did you leave OD for All Stars dude ?

Thats fair enough m8. No harm in trying. Just a couple of things in reply.

I thought that if a player had the latest patch, the server supported the mod and the player had the maps (no exp. pack only maps I mean), u could run the mod without the exp. pack? A few of [OD] could when we booked BW servers anyway. I'm probably wrong tho lol.

Yeah I agree ffa is where u head first online generally but I was really going on the popularity of the NGUK specialties servers. They were usually full ever night and I know for a fact a lot of clans now have specialties divisions. Barrysworld CTF dominates but this was the one really strong area NGUK had and it's extremely popular now, trust me lol.

You are right but I only meant 1 server, perhaps as a trial. BW offers a lot of spare ffa, tdm and even ctf servers which are often empty when you look. Am I right in thinking BW has 4 FFA servers? What about 3 ffa, and 1 specialties? Would probably be more than enough for the ffa players out there (especially when most are quiet most nights i've looked).

Anyway thats just my opinion lol.

About the clan. I left [OD] a couple of weeks ago, just joined Allstars a few days back.

Keep The FFA Servers

Sorry to disagree with you Napalm but I would like the FFA Servers kept, there is a distinct shortage of FFA servers for Elite Force.

The problem is not that they are FFA its that they all start with HM_DN3 and rarely seem to be on any other map. I have found that allot of people don’t like playing HM_DN3 (I love it!) after DN3 it moves onto another map that allot of people don’t like HM_CAM (Not one of my fav's ).

The most popular FFA server is NGUK FFA (Large Maps) because you can vote! That way we can play whatever maps we like when we like!

I suggest that BW introduce voting on a couple of them if possible (Please Starman ) This I am sure would increase the amount of people playing on them. The NGUK Large Maps server always has people on it.

Having said all that a Specialties server would be good too :uhoh:

I agree Monty, but I only meant 1 server from the ffa servers, or even from TDM. That still should leave u 3 ffa servers. Most of the time thats enough for everyone I would have thought. It was only an idea tho.

However the one bad thing about NGUK Specialities servers was the voting, because some berk always changed the map right near the end of a game lol. Voting can have a bad side 2

Perhaps BW could introduce some kind of online questionnaire as to what maps the community would like to have on the ffa servers. (of course this is easier said than done!).
Personally I only really like to play Borg1,Borg2,Scav1 and DN1.
Just an idea...

When voting is enabled, the 'less talented' players constantly vote for new maps, as they are getting their arses kicked.

YES!

EXACTLY my point! When ur heading for an mvp or a good score, then some player with -13 votes for another map its most annoying (why cant they wait another 2/3 mins for the next round?). The usually someone else changes it again just as u r getting used to it. Either this or they change to a medic and start to kill their own team.

I agree that this is a problem with players who are 'less talented' I have come across it on many occasions and lost good position as a consequence. I don't know what the answer is, maybe as Greendemon says we should have a vot on what maps are on the servers then we wouldn't have the problem of maps that people wont play.

It would be good if you could vote in an empty server but not when there are more than 2 people, that way empty severs could be put on a good map and people would join! but I guess that’s a Q3 issue.

basically whats happened is this, NGUK have gone down and out.....and are introducing their pay per play scheme, LMAO! which shouldnt go down a treat for too many people.....

now that leaves BW as the main server provider for EF by far, agree?

what they need to do is get a little of eveything that EF players want/like on their servers....

they should convert the servers that rarely get used like FFA and TDM to ones like ins2agib and sepcialties.....

ok ok, i know some peeps dont have the XP but for instagib they wud be fine, as all they need to do, to connect to a instagib server is to put download form servers off in their setting and put this in their autoexec : cl_allowDownload 0

then they dont even need to download instagib from anywhere, as it will connect automatically and let them in <-- just for peeps who didnt know.....

also, NGUK used 3 specialties servers at one point, each holding 16 players in each diff one, and they had them ALL FULL, which certainly means that specialties is a wanted/well played game...

peeps want action from BW! they dont want servers that dont even get used......

Exactly my point Dread, well said. I'm confident one BW server conversion would be very popular.

Starman is it possible to have the maps on the servers rotate even when people are not in them? That way people would use them more as the maps would vary!

I also agree that a BW Specialties server is needed btw

i have bin checking out the servers fo BW and non of the TDM ones even get used.....

they r always stuck on dm_dn3 and no1 goes in.... i saw about 3 maybe 4 that haven't been used in about thw past century

i say u should at least convert one, maybe 2 of these 2 specialties, as we peeps with the XP need our moneys worth

hello all
as this thread is about specs servers i think ill add two pennies worth(if no-one minds )
first off, welcome back barryworld the ef community was lost without you
secondly, there are roumors abound that barrysworld are going to go pay per play as nguk are reportedly going, personally i belive this is a very bad move indeed.
thirdly to the subject at hand,whilst scanning for servers the other night i found that apart from 2 servers for in2ajib both of which were barryworld servers the rest of them were either ctf or ffa and there was around 147 servers listed at the time
so it would seem that there is a demand here that no-one is catering for,so please mr barrysworld give us specs server or two!!
