Hi folks,
Do you like the recent changes on BW Tribes servers (no map voting, anti-TK code, random map rotation etc)?
What else would you like to see with regard to server settings, maps, additional servers and so on?

A skip map option on servers that still have map voting enabled may save a few arguments over which map to change to ;)

I suppose this makes a change from Hijack, Skyjack, Skyjack, Tunnel Rats then back to Skyjack ;) The randomness doesn't seem too great & the skip map option is a good idea imho, maybe in BWadmin 4.5 ? ;)

I think the new system sucks. I don't like the idea of playing the same map 2 out of 3 times (which happens, today: Anthill, Tunnelrats, Anthill) and not being able to change it. Plus there are certain maps I just don't like (Valhalla, Towers) and would like to at least have the option to see if the majority of the players agree with me.

Didn't think there was a problem with voting as this allowed the map to be played which most people wanted to play, also had Tunnel Rats - Ant HillBack to Tunnel Rats last night

Hmm Ruwank capped on snowblind by grabbing our flag from its spot then running 2 yards across the flag room to return his sides flag. Returning a flag while holding the other isn't supposed to be a cap AFAIK.
Theres a bug there somewhere.
Quite funny though, ru got half way accross the map before realising he had allready somehow capped.
And no, we didn't imagine it.

The issue of map voting has been raised many times, when BWAdmin incorporated random rotation code I saw a method to reduce the constant and repetitive voting which usually saw only 3 maps from many get played on server.

Here's the rotation preferences for the C&H server, they are of course open to be changed:

Anthill verypopular
Citadels verypopular
CrissCross verypopular
PeakPerformance verypopular
Towers verypopular
Skyjack verypopular
Spaceport verypopular
TunnelRats verypopular
Hijack verypopular
Annihilator popular
Hexbreaker popular
OneSmallStep popular
Valhalla popular
TempleOfDoom popular

The server plays 4 verypopular and then one popular and then repeats. Maps cannot reoccur within the random rotation for another 5 maps with only one exception: the first map (when players join the server) does not form part of this random rotation, and so may reoccur. I presume this is what people have experienced when they see a duplicate. I'll get this fixed in the coming version of BWAdmin.

Any suggestions for changes to the rotation are welcome.

Shelob: the flag/player collision code in BWAdmin hasn't altered since September 1999 (when LWH was incorporated). Even so, I've taken another look over it and can see nothing to suggest what you describe happening might occur. I've also tested it and been unable to reproduce it. I'll continue to look into it of course(I wouldn't suggest you imagined it).

Shelob: Only way I possibly can see this might have happened is if another player had touched the flag at precisely the same moment as ru...and I mean precisely that instant, something very rare and a base code issue rather than BWAdmin.

Did you see it, any more info you can give?

BTW you hijacked my thread ya bugger :)

Please god no scara :) Though one can never please everyone i think the general concensus is scara blows ;)
Perhaps a vote option to remove a map from cycle or demote its popularity?

I was defending at the time, but I was outside the base not in the flag room so I didn't see if anyone else touched it at the same time.
I saw ru emerge from the flag room (he had not realised he'd allready capped) and as he wasn't carrying a flag I didn't bother to kill him :p
I'll ask ru again for more details of inside flag room.
Note that I'm talking about *my* flag room, i.e. ru omitted carrying it 800m across the map.

I personally like Scarabrae and Desert Of Death. I know that a LOT of Tribes players out there can't stand them, but I don't care. If I like them , I like them.

Have to say i prefered the former setup on the C&H server Poker, also it is nice to be able to vote TD on and off, as when the server is filled with experienced players it makes the whole thing a little more challenging. If the system stays as is :( Please could u take towers off the very popular list (/me don't like that map) and put Temple of Doom on as it is almost always an enjoyable one to play.
Just a few of the simple thoughts echoing around the empty space known as my head.

I think the map rotation idea is very good. I've got very sick of maps I like being voted off and even voting _every_ map off until ppl get the map they want.

There does seem to be a problem with the C&H server though Pokes, it was only playing Anthill and Tunnelrats last night.

I like Scarabrae too, I think it's great on pub servers as the teams aren't organised enough to lock it down. Don't worry it won't be coming up that much but the players that like it will appreciate it when they do.

I do agree that team damage should be voteable.

Looking into the prob with the repetitive anthill/tunnelrats, should be sorted tomorrow.

Team Damage is still votable on the C&H server.

Not bothered about voting, but would like to see TD left on as it encourages people to aim and not fire mortars inside there own base and pretend its defending.

BS and scara are dead levels and result in lots of good players dropping (or joining the server) which reduces the chance of having a GG.

This all seems very odd to me. Why are rubbish, boring, non eventful maps such as broadside and scarabrae brought back to life and for whom? The 2 people whom actually like them?

I know how much you love scarabrae crunchy but you can't dispute the fact that just about everyone hates this map, not to mention the fact that most people drop from the server because they can't vote past it.

A brilliant map like DX may last 10 minutes, if you're lucky, but a map like scarabrae will go the full distance because its next to impossible to cap, and without map voting there is nothing we can do about it.

Why may improvements to the server only to remove then a few months later? All we need now is to remove team damage to really screw everything up

Well i for one am pleased to see voting on ctfs removed. Nothing i hate more than playin the same maps over and over again in 1 sesh.

Although I do agree that Scarb and BS are not good on a public server..they get boring as hell after a while.

My recommendation for ctfs....remove Scarab and BS, and leave it at that

For all the voters out there, why not just run a server with SnowBlind on it, no other maps. I'm sure it will be full all the time..
After all, none of the new maps are any good, and we all really don't want to try something new, different, and challenging....

Hey poker, just one complaint on TAC. I don't believe it is fixable, but when someone is in midair, and someone else 'walks on there head' in mid air the person below explodes.
The problem is that when both people are in air using jets and one lands and takes a step on the other ones head, it thinks that person is on the ground for a split second and causes him to explode in mid air. I have no Ideas, but you might want to take a look at it.

BTW y have the BWTL servers passes change are we not aloud to use them no more??

The bug in the TAC Mod to which |-|unter is refering is a fault of the Mod and not Bwadmin.

In fact, I doubt Poker plays much TAC judging by his performance the one time I actually saw him play :D The offer of practices with the [SPAM] boys still stands.

Whilst I'm in the strand about map rotation, voting etc...

Could you remove the the usual suspects and worst offenders of redjack lag from TAC's map rotation* altogether:

-JustHoldIt_C&H (Public enemy No.1 affectionately known to TAC regulars as "JustLagIt")

-DeathValley_CTF (from 30 FramesPerSecond down to 30 SecondsPerFrame)

-TheNoFlyZone_CTF (a strangely prophetic name)

These maps have us scrambling for the tab menu every time they come up. They just cause misery for modem users ie. the majority.
