BW public servers

Just a few observations & questions.

Is it me or have the servers suddenly gone downhill. Almost every time i play i get a jerky game even though i am on cable. It seems that i am not the only one as all the other players complain about lag / jerkiness.

I had a little look on KALI and found that your (BW) running 13 servers on the same IP address, i'm assuming its all on the same PC. I'm no network expert but it does look to me like that IP is overloaded and this could be causing the problems. I worked out that you could have a max of 116 players all on the same IP, obviously never gonna happen but thats some serious bandwidth being used up. I also had a look at other game servers on various ISP's around europe and they don't cram that amount onto a single IP. Can the IP's, servers handle this amount of traffic ?

Like i mentioned before i'm no expert so if i'm wrong please let me know and i'll shut up and look for something else to blame for everyone's bad connections. (i bet BT are behind it somehow:))

You'd be quite suprised how much crap you can shove down a gigabit net link ;)

I don't think theres a problem with server loading, but there defo seems to be some network issues..dunno if its routing or what, but intermittent lag is becomming more frequent :/

I used to be a regular visitor to the team DM servers, both for clan praccy and just having a kick about, but it has to be said - the quality of the servers has been pretty shire for the last 6 weeks or so. Anyone who wants to try playing 4v4 in sam.barrysworld.com:27971/2/3 I'm sure will find their lagometer with lots of sharp pointy bits. This was something I was merrily putting up with until the start of the Savage league season. Playing on their servers reminded me of what a fun game Quake 3 is when you aren't battling against ongoing packet loss - as well as the other clan.
I don't know what the problem might be, but it's not fixed by trying a variety of dial ups, and clan m8s on adsl get the same thing. Pings are OK but pax loss is fkin rife.

Can someone either investigate this or blame it on BT - I'm happy with either. N1.

NTL routing has been pants but is now supposedly fixed, we are looking at the Q3 servers in question to see if it is a case of overloading.

The public ra3 servers have been really bad for spikes lately, on lot's of different ISPs. In fact as much as I hate to say it I tried using BWdial for last weekends BWRA3L game and it was much worse than playing on my 0800 dialup :/

would be nice if it could get back to the way it was :)

Cheers Bigfoot m80,

It would be good to get back to the BW tdm servers as the usual hang-out. It used to be a good place to praccy and line up some friendly 4v4s.
And shoot some french folk heheheh

Please note that if the only solution is to cut the TDM servers down then that will be what happens. You shouldn't be using them for Clan Praccy anyhow.
