Hey there, just hoping if someone can give me a hand. I'm looking to get a laptop from Amazon.com (it's not available on the UK one). But I was wondering if anyone has ordered from there before, and I want to know about their delivery times.

I'm getting this Laptop:
Amazon.com: MSI GX740-079 17-Inch Laptop: Electronics

And it says here to deliver to United Kingdom on Priority Delivery would take 2-3 Business Days.

Amazon.com Help: Europe

I have this Monday and Tuesday off, So if I buy it saturday morning it should turn up on one of those days right? Basically I'm asking since my Dad bought a washing machine for us recently and they couldnt deliver it as no one was in at the time. And I dont want that to happen with the laptop hehe. I've never bought something from Abroad before but I work part-time and I dont get consecutive days off much :( Any help would be handy. :)

Customs are gonna really fuck you up the arse with that one. :)

[edit]

For the UK (in business days)
Standard Shipping -> 18-26
Expedited Shipping -> 8-17
Priority Shipping -> 2-3

But customs could delay it further

So if you ordered it Saturday Morning then the quickest it would get to you would be Tuesday, but I reckon that's probably a bit optimistic.

You will pay quite a bit of import tax I think bud and of course the power adapter is going to be a problem, also warranty will be a real issue unless MSI have worldwide cover.

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it unless I was actually in the states buying it in person.

Ah well thanks for the info guys much appreciated, it's a shame the UK version only comes with an I5 core. As it's hard to get a laptop with the I7 core + Graphics card like the ATI HD5870 for that kind of price.

I was looking at that one before hand thanks georgie, but that graphics card seems kind of weak. NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M - Notebookcheck

On this NoteBookCheck review of the GTS250M for example, when you compare it with the HD5870 it gets out performed quite heavily on some games. On CoDMW2 on ultra high settings the HD5870 gets double the framerate; even more with Fear2 and Crysis.

The dilemma I face now is to get the I7 version with the weaker card, or the I5 version with the better card hehe. Or I could buy one and try to get upgrade it myself but that would mess with the warranty to I guess hehe. Hmm more browsing around maybe the option to take, and i'll try some Youtube reviews and see if I can judge for myself.

Using it for gaming? The GPU will matter far more than CPU, definately. There are no games that an i5 will struggle with, nothing. A weak GPU will drive you insane though and probably force you to upgrade a year before you want to.

Very suprised that MSI aren't offering that model in Europe.

It's for gaming yeah, just couldn't splash too much in my current situation. I was browsing around since I last posted and this video shows it handling Crysis well on high settings, like you say I5 seems fine and the card is really highly rated. People on forum's saying it performs well.

Thanks for saving me quite alot of bother and effort there guys hehe, much appreciated.

You are insane spending that much on a laptop IMO. Is there a specific reason you have to get a laptop for gaming rather than a desktop that will be quieter, cheaper and cooler, and more powerful for less money?

Having a top end gfx card in a laptop is just asking for heat issues. Also, your battery life will be wank.
