halp (again!!) \lol\ I've\ done\ something\ to\ my\ key \board\ (christ\ knows \what!)\ and\ every\ time\ I\ hit\ the\ space \bar\ I \get\ these\ annoying\ lines!!

Sorry\ to\ be\ a\ pain\ but\ after\ about\ 10\ minutes\ of randomly prodding\ everuthing\ I\ could\ think\ of\ and\ not\ having \any\ luck\ I\ thought\ I'd\ ask\ the\ guys \who'd\ know!

What happens when you hit \ then? Are any other keys bugged (especially the ones that come with SHIFT and ALT?

Try another keyboard. If the problem remains, it´s something with your machine. In that case, you need to perform a Quirkafleeg.

according to google it happens with people getting full stops after hitting space too, its an automatic function of some kind but tbh it is totally beyond me why anyone would find it useful to have bloody lines after everything they type!

This\ is\ possibly\ related\ to\ other \problems\ with \my\ PC,\ i.e.\ that\ it's\ started \making\ a nosie like a washing machine when I start it up and...ooh look the lines have gone, they'll be back, they always\ come back anyway what was\ I\ saying? ah yes,\ it's\ started\ chugging like you wouldn't believe ffs \ yep they're back, and what\ was\ the\ other \thing?\ nope,\ can't\ remember\ now\ but \it's\ being\ a \real dick \at \the \moment, \can't\ be\ because it \needs\ cleaning because\ that got done.

Any\ suggestions?

well I just restared it and it was doing it again but this time the escape key worked...could it maybe be a problem with the keyboard rather than the PC?...mind you that wouldn't account for the clock resetting, but it might explain why every time I hit delete key I get shunted into a new tab, though that seems \to\ have stopped now\ too. oh FFS!!!

Your spacebar isn't next to the \ key is it? Could be catching it, or it could be a short circuit. You should try another keyboard just in case.

As for the clock resetting when you turn it on (others may need to confirm this) but that might be due to the battery on your motherboard being knackered, cheap to replace if that's the case. It looks like a giant watch battery and should be fairly cheap online.

just saved all my assignments and photos to external thingies so if it odes die it's going to be a pain in the wallet but not heartbreaking!

Raven I think my friend at work was saying about the battery dying and resetting his clock, he said it was fixed by leaving the pc running for 24hrs to recharge it...is this true?

Thanks for the input and advice guys, really appreciate it, this baby only needs to survive long enough for me to finish my degree then she can go into retirement but till then I need her to keep goin!!

Have you run a virus scan?

Turn filter keys off as well. Control panel -> accessibility afaik.

Ran a virus scan and nothing came up there so hot footed it up to staples and brought a new keyboard, so far so good!! I think it was the keyboard wire which had some loose bits in it and was making all kinds of odd things happen.

/phew!!!

Run a malwarebytes scan as well just in case. But glad you can space like a normal person again. Your FB updates were making my brain ache.

Ezteq have a look inside the case. On the motherboard you have a round coin sized battery. That's what you will have to replace. They usually last about 5 years I think. The battery is used for a few things, but one is to remember the time. If you find your computer keeps forgetting, it's because the battery is dead.

I did not know leaving the pc on would re-charge it, but I doubt that works because I use my computer alot, yet I have had to replace them in the past.

Replacing the battery is very easy in case you were wondering.

Also regarding the keyboard, if possible try another one and see how you get on. If they both do it, try (if they are USB) using a different USB port on your computer.

If all else fails, try some voodoo!
